Unable to send and receive via Windows Live Mail

Whatever I do to try to send and receive I get a message box

"The processing of required tasks was interrupted"

and further down.

"Send 1 message .......... Cancelled

Check for new messages .............. Cancelled."

The man at the local PC World says my PC is OK the problem is that for some reason Talk talk are cancelling the communication.

I can get to my mail via webmail, so the a/c is still live.

Any suggestions?

Re: Unable to send and receive via Windows Live Mail

Hi martongreen,

is your email @tiscali.co.uk  or @talktalk.net

Is this the Windows mail app on Windows 8?

Thanks

Karl.

Re: Unable to send and receive via Windows Live Mail

The address is @lineone.net which was taken over by tiscali and then talk talk. I'm using windows 7.

Before you ask I'm using pop3.talktalk.net and smtp.talktalk.net.

Re: Unable to send and receive via Windows Live Mail

well get this, I changed the pop3 and smtp back to talktalk, and got 11 messages downloaded, then up comes the "Check for new messages ......... Cancelled" message again.

Is Talktalk rationing access for non talktalk addresses? I'm still a paying Talktalk customer.

Re: Unable to send and receive via Windows Live Mail

Hi martongreen,

Please can you update your forum profile to include your telephone number and mobile number so that we can look into this further. To do this go into "my settings" then "personal information" then add your details.

Thanks

Karl

Hi, been away for a few days. Profile updated as requested.

Re: Unable to send and receive via Windows Live Mail

Hi,

Can you try the following settings,

incoming server : pop3.lineone.net

outgoing server : smtp.talktalk.net

outgoing port : 587

SSL : Yes

Require Authentication : Y

Then try a test send and receive.

Thanks

Karl.

Re: Unable to send and receive via Windows Live Mail

I've changed settings and 1st time I got different error message "connection failed". Tried again and I'm back to "canceled".

I noticed that incoming port changed to 995 when I ticked SSL. Outgoing is 587 as you suggested.

Re: Unable to send and receive via Windows Live Mail

Hi,

do you have the option to change the outgoing security to TLS ?

Does this make a differance.

To verify if it is only windows mail affected, you could try one of the free mail clients such as incredimail, www.incredimail.com

Thanks

Re: Unable to send and receive via Windows Live Mail

I can't find a TLS option.

I'll download incredimail and try. Any suggestion for settings there?

Re: Unable to send and receive via Windows Live Mail

Hi,

I use increimail myself, mostly for my gmail accounts, but have recently been testing it with TalkTalk accounts.

I found that it aded the account details automatically, configured the servers correctly and just worked.

I was able to send and recieve between accounts with no issues.

Thanks

Re: Unable to send and receive via Windows Live Mail

Hi, more useful error message with Incredimail. "The connection was rejected by incoming mail server "pop3.lineone.net"

Seems like I'm not wanted.

Re: Unable to send and receive via Windows Live Mail

Hi,

when you log into your line one webmail, does it give the option to change the password for your email account.

Or, can you add the line one account into my account and see if this will let you change the password once added.

Just want to see if it could be an issue with the password on the server etc.

Thanks

Re: Unable to send and receive via Windows Live Mail

I can't find a way to do either of these things via the "my account" or "mail" tabs at talktalk. Lineone was aquired by talktalk some years ago, so there's no other website.

I've tried changing the password of my talktalk account to see if that changed the lineone password, but it didn't, so I guess the 2 are not linked. As a temporary fix I've created martongreen@talktalk.net, and set up forward all from **@lineone.net to this address. Not a long term fix, as among other things I can't use a spam filter on forwarded mail.

I get into the lineone mail via webmail on the talktalk website, so presumably I have the right password.

Re: Unable to send and receive via Windows Live Mail

Hi,

If you log into 'My Account' , click 'profile and settings' from the menu at the top, there should be an option in the menu on the left hand side for Account Details.

Under this is a link for Email and Password.

When in the email section, if you click 'manage existing address, will it allow you to add the line one address.

If it does, once added you may be able to change the password via this section.

Thanks

Karl.

Re: Unable to send and receive via Windows Live Mail

I've followed your last message, and changed the password, but this has only changed the password for the community. My old password is still needed to log into webmail.

Things have moved on a little though. This morning I got phone call from a friend to say that e-mail they had sent me was being bounced "address not known" I tried to log onto webmail, and got "account does not exist". I was not happy!

Tried this afternoon and I can get into webmail again - phew.

Thought I'd try windowsmail and incedimail again. No luck "connection to the server failed". I then thought I'd try changing the servers back for lineone to talktalk. This time I was asked for a password - progress! First I tried the old password, which had worked for webmail, then the new one, just in case. In both cases I get " connection rejected by the server".

Any suggestion?

Re: Unable to send and receive via Windows Live Mail

I've tried to associate the lineone address to my talk talk account, but again it tells me that both passwords are wrong, even though the old password still works with webmail. Incoming mail is still getting bounced "bad destination mailbox address".

Re: Unable to send and receive via Windows Live Mail

Hi martongreen,

This is a difficult one. We have no access to legacy servers, and due to DPA being sketchy around these, our engineers are unable to link these addresses to accounts, so they are in essence, in limbo.

We have no access to reset or even view passwords for these addresses, so are unable to assist with password issues for these.

I can only suggest, that you try to direct all your current contacts to your TalkTalk addresses going forward.  Not the perfect solution I know, but without access to the relevant services, this is the only advice I can offer.

Thanks

Karl.
