Re: I need to book a BT engineer - Slow broadband 0.74 Down 154 meters from Exchange.

Hi glev26,

Please explain why the TalkTalk router is so bad and the very old Drayteck is 9 Mb faster.

Sorry, I don't know why, nor do I know why the speedtest results with the Draytek Router appear to be higher than is physically possible as you router is only syncing at 8.1Mbps

If you would like us to arrange a further engieers visit could you provide availability for the engineers visit (Saturday PM?) and potential engineers charges may apply

Chris

Re: I need to book a BT engineer - Slow broadband 0.74 Down 154 meters from Exchange.

Chris, Yes I accept the potential £50.00 charge, As long as the engineer is an SRI specialist.

I think the issue here is that even with the Draytek syncing at 8.1 it is still well below what the line is capable off.

The second issue is the fact that the talktalk router just does not work. Do you have a model the supersedes the HG532 as the draytek is not an "N" router.

Saturday Am would be better but if PM is all that left that is fine.

Thanks

Hi glev26,

Thanks for the update

Just to confirm, do you mean an SFI (special faults investigator or broadband engineer to you and me :smileyhappy:)?

I can arrange to send a replacement router to test with, would you like to try this before committing to the engineer visit?

Re: I need to book a BT engineer - Slow broadband 0.74 Down 154 meters from Exchange.

Chris,
Yes I mean a broadband Engineer. I would like you to send me another router, just to see if your router can match the speed of the draytek, but I still require an engineer as the speeds are far to low for someone who can see the exchange out of his window :smileyhappy: My mum gets 12mb sync speed and is 4 miles from the same exchange as stated before I am only 154 yards.
Thanks
Chris. Its been nearly 23 hours from my last post and have not had an update from you.

Re: I need to book a BT engineer - Slow broadband 0.74 Down 154 meters from Exchange.

I have filled in the security questions again, i dont know why you were not able to use the last one.

We have wasted another week !! as I was supposed to have an SFI enginner on Saturday moring as someone changed that to a copper engineer my third.. who could not find any fault. I have has two talktalk engineers who said i need an SFI.

I tried to confirm this by phone but once again nearly burst a blood vessle as your staff do not speak or understand simple Englsh.

As stated before I work Monday to Friday and dont have anyone who wait in for me, Therefore I can only book appointments Saturday's, Chris offered my Saturday afternoon, but obviously due to the time delays the appointment was not booked.

Your incident number is 130621-002029.

I am getting seriouly fed up and annoyed at this slow service. If this service was in the corporate world lots of people would have lots thier jobs.

I am curious to see what a new TalkTalk router will do for me ...

Hi glev26,

Thank you :smileyhappy:

I have checked and can see that the router was dispatched on 24/06 so you should receive this within the next few days. This will be sent by Royal Mail.

It would be worth testing with this router before we arrange the broadband engineer visit.

Thanks

Debbie

Re: I need to book a BT engineer - Slow broadband 0.74 Down 154 meters from Exchange.

I picked up the new router from the sorting office tonight and plugged in the stats I get now are

ADSL line speed (kbps): up 979 down 16797
Line attentuation (dB): up 6.3 down 12.0
SN margin (dB): up 9.1 down 8.2

I will monitor over the next few days to see if the speed drops.

Do you see the same from your side is there anything you can do to improve the speed ? 16mb is much better though.

Is the MTU setting the best it can be ?

Re: I need to book a BT engineer - Slow broadband 0.74 Down 154 meters from Exchange.

Hi glev26,

Thanks for the update. The line test is now clear and the sync rate has doubled. The connection stats look good so I have now changed the profile to 6db. Let us know how the connection compares :smileyhappy:

Downstream Rate 18825 kb/s
Upstream Rate 1019 kb/s
Downstream SNR 6 dB

Re: I need to book a BT engineer - Slow broadband 0.74 Down 154 meters from Exchange.

The line speed seams to be stable now, what a shame it was not suggested earlier to replace the router for a different type.

On the HG533 should the internet light be a solid light ? as it constantly flashes.

Also is it not possible to get more speed out of the line ? Although the sync speed is around the 18K, the speed-test show about 15mb which is still 9 Mb under what I have had before.

Re: I need to book a BT engineer - Slow broadband 0.74 Down 154 meters from Exchange.

Hi glev26,

Just to confirm, are you running the speed tests in a wired or wireless state? Would you like to try an interleaved profile as they tend to be slightly faster than a fastpath profile?

Re: I need to book a BT engineer - Slow broadband 0.74 Down 154 meters from Exchange.

I can confirm that all speed tests are done wired.

Please switch to interleaved profile so we can see what that does.

Thanks

speedtest.net is showing 16.88mb download

router is showing

ADSL line speed (kbps): up 1019 down 18217
Line attentuation (dB): up 6.3 down 12.0
SN margin (dB): up 8.8 down 6.0
Total errors seconds: 21

TalkTalk like almost all ISPs pay the Chinese manufacturers to make the routers as cheap as possible.
