Engineer didn't turn up to the property

Hi there, the engineer was meant to turn up to my new property - according to TalkTalk technical department they did an external fix to the locality - however they were supposed to also come in to the property to fully wire me up.

After many contradictions from the agent over the phone, I am awaiting a call back from the manager for an answer. I still have no internet. I am no engineer so am unable to re-wire the fascia plate... I am essentially paying for a service that I cannot use!! I kept saying I need an engineer to come in over and over again!!

They also claimed the engineer was only an external engineer. As far as I am aware, an engineer is an engineer and should do their job properly. My new contract specifically states that an engineer will come into the new hone and check everything is wired up correctly etc... screenshot from TalkTalk email

Can anyone help at all or am I doomed to repeat another calamity phone call to useless drones? Peace and love, Luke

Hi Chris, unsure what that means... I have a single port Openreach socket on the wall but none of the cables fit in to it... I do have a Master Socket which I took from my previous property however, I am no electrician so cannot rewire this into the wall!! I wish I knew how to but the engineer was meant to come into the property as stated in the email I received...

Is it the same as the non-NTE in the master socket guide? If it is then the router would connect via a micro-filter

the top of the screenshot is the socket on the wall... the master socket below that is the one I had installed in my previous property by the engineer... I don't know anything about 'non-NTE's' or micro-filter's as this isn't something I am accustomed to in the technical world. Can you please help me in anyway?

@LukePG85 micro-filters help prevent interference between the phone and the broadband and we've been advised to use them in every socket where there's a device since broadband began.

In the days of dial up we didn't have them and our phones would seem to be engaged when people rang up. The technology all changed with Broadband and filters.

It really is quite bizarre that we now have people who have only ever lived in houses with fancy filtered master sockets, and have never seen a micro-filter. I guess it's a sign that we're getting old.

I am 37 years old and remember dialup... not having access to the phone line when connected to the internet was a ballache. Ever since I left home I have always left it up to engineers or people who know what they're talking about - call it ignorance if you must, however I don't have the time to care about something as trivial as 'micro-filters' etc lol

I guess you and I are very different. If I'm using any device or piece of machinery whether that be a PC or a car or whatever, I like to have at least a basic knowledge of how the thing and it's component parts work in order to be able to perform routine maintenance or basic fault diagnosis if things go wrong.

Hopefully your service is live and will be working once you get the router plugged in, but you would have saved some time and effort if you had been able to just look at the socket and realise that you needed to plug in the phone and router via a filter.

Basic maintenance is key for everyone I agree to that - just never crossed my mind that a micro filter was a thing!! As I said, call me ignorant but as crucial as the internet is in this day and age, I have to get the information from somewhere... I assume this forum is meant to gain information surely? Hence my question on here? Now I know!
