Keith , I thought I had cracked the issue.....I removed ALL the PLC's and extender from my home network and re-paired the existing PLC's then removed them. I then installed the ''new'' extender kit with the new PLC and hey presto all was green...I then installed the ''old'' PLC's and all was green..now running two seperate PLC networks via separate ethernet connections to the router ...All was working fine but it only lasted 24hrs before all the lights went red again...no matter how may times I repeated the above..the lights went red...I was giving up when TT tech rang me out of the blue ..I explained what was happening and they sent me out another extender kit....

Did as before......yet when I accessed the user interface for the extender I noticed that the latest extender had older firmware installed ...and when paired I got the red lights ...yet the previous extender had a newer version....so I tried a process of mix and match using extender received via Debbie and Keith involvement with the new plc sent out by TT this week.................and...........wait for it..........GREEN LIGHTS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AT LAST !!!!!!!!!!

So after three extender kits and hours of pairing / un pairing I now have a home network that works the way I wanted.......

I would like to point out that the TT branded dlink extender kits were discontinued by DLINK in 2019 and they do not offer any support or firmware upgrade and ( as per dlink ) if you carry out a reset ) pin in the hole ) the device will revert back to a previous ( older ) firmware version...with no option to update.

and finally .....is it possible to rename the SSID of the TT extender wifi so that I am the only person connecting to it in my office and the rest of the family uses the TT router connection in the house ...to get better bandwidth etc

Its going to provide a wifi signal to my garden outbuilding / office.

thankyou to all at TT for sorting out the replacement extender kits...now I need a trip to the post office to return all the bits ...as I have been warned that I may be charged £50 per kit if they aren't returned ....

I was supplied with a DLINK DHP-W610AV power line adaptor/wifi extender kit by Talktalk when I renewed my contract last year and despite many hours of trying to get them to pair and run on my existing D-LINK DHP-P326AV power line home network I put them away and forgot about them until earlier today....I need to extend my wifi into an outbuilding in my garden which is on separate mains circuit so the existing adaptors would not work so I thought I would use the wifi extender in the kitchen to send my wifi signal into the garden...Many hours later the ''new'' wifi extender kit would only connect at slow speeds with a red light showing on the extender ...network speed indicator ...So I removed all the existing older white Talktalk dlink adaptors and fitted the ''new'' adaptor and extender and all the lights went green...yet as soon as I put the older TT dlinks back in the light went red...

Are the older TT adaptors compatible with the newer DHP-W610AV dlink adaptors / wifi extenders ?

thanks in advance .

Hi @moorlander,

@Anonymous has asked me to help you with this.

I have never tried them with any older PLAs. In your opening message you said that providing that the WiFi extender kit is connected without the old PLAs connected they work, is this still the case?

There is nothing to stop you from using the older set totally independent from the WiFi extender kit, it is just that it will use an extra LAN port on the router. This will always be better than trying to get them all to work as one unit & one LAN port on the router, as you will now have double the bandwidth or more (depending on which old D-Link ones you have).

I have an outdoor water proof power socket in a water proof box...I wanted to place the wifi extender in that to provide wifi into my garden / outbuilding as the building is on a separate mains circuit and cant use a PLA in that building.

I have removed all the ''old'' TT PLA and just plugged in the ''new'' PLA and extender ...in the same socket next to my router and although I now get three green lights on the PLA but are still getting a RED light on the extender - the network speed indicator .

This waterproof box may well be blocking the Wi-Fi signal from the extender anyway, is it definitely on the same electrical circuit as the network connector unit? What happens with the extender in the kitchen as you had it before, now that the old PLAs are disconnected, is the Powerline light still green there?

Keith, I have set up the PLA and the extender in the house plugged into the same double wall socket....next to each other....and have tried them in the same room in different sockets ....still get the same red light on the extender.

I haven't got as far as installing the extender outside...and it will only be installed in a plastic box...thin box....But the issues isn't wifi its the NETWORK speed indicator ...should be all green lights on both the PLA and the extender who plugged into the same socket inside the house or at least in the same room...and before an asks the house wiring is fine...been checked last year by an electrician after we had an appliance fail

Ah, it was just that you said originally that it was OK in the kitchen unless the old PLAs were connected. Now it would seem as if the new set is faulty.

The LED is not network speed, it is the powerline light, that when red indicates slow speed over the mains electricity. I'll ask TT to replace them for you.

Hi @moorlander

Yes, it is possible to have a different SSID on the extender. Log into its UI then go to:-

Set-up > Wireless Settings

Set up the SSIDs you want there for both bands and save them. However, you'll probably want to disable WPS in the router (security risk if enabled anyway. If enabled then the next time the extender is turned off & back on again, it will try to clone the router's Wi-Fi settings.
