New Router Please

We need a router that can set up a Guest network separate from our main network, which our current router doesn't support according to what I've read on the forum.

Which router do you have? Recent Hubs do provide for a guest network.

It was all going so well and easy to setup until ....

So ... set up the Guest network on 2.4 and 5 and all good, Alexa devices going out to the internet

via the guest login.

Main network all good too but then trying to connect to the Guest network from a mobile or PC we can

connect but there is no internet available.

The Alexa devices continue to work on the Guest network just fine.

Any advice much appreciated.

Hi @Forest42 please can I double-check that even though you said it in your post, that Alexa is definitely accessing the internet OK via the Guest network? I have just tried connecting a PC to my Guest network and cannot get an IP address allocated. It does not make much sense that Alexa can access it (what is its allocated IP address) & the PC not. With what I have seen on mine, nothing would be able to access the Guest network with internet access.

I agree, how can Alexa get out to the internet on the Guest network and a pc or mobile can't 🙂

Two Alexa devices can get out to the internet have been allocated 192.168.8.12 and 192.168.8.13.

I can't test with an Alexa. As I thought, it was fixed in V206, but I had to do a factory reset on mine (probably due to test config changes a lot of the time). With both the default SSID & my own SSID, I get internet access:-

Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.8.1
DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.8.1

I am actually posting this via my Guest network.

What would be interesting is, before you do a factory reset, what is the default gateway address of each Alexa?

If we reset to factory setting, will it retain the talktalk settings or revert to manufacturers settings? Here are the details for each Alexa, which are the same except for one DNS entry having additional 8.8.8.8 underneath.

Those screenshots are correct.

The extra DNS showing up (Google 8.8.8.8) might be the case if Google DNS has been set in the wrong place. It needs to go in the section:-

Dashboard > See internet settings > Manage advanced settings > Internet connectivity > DNS IPv4

Some people wrongly put it in:-

Dashboard > See Wi-Fi Settings > Manage Advanced Settings > TalkTalk Wi-Fi Hub > DNS

It is wrong to put it here, because this is the DNS server handed out to a client via DHCP & should by default be 192.168.1.1.

Resetting a router to default will remove any configuration that you have put in, it will be able to connect to the broadband OK in this state.

On your PCs (if Windows) please can you get me this from the command prompt:-

ipconfig /all
