This problem has only recently appeared, with "Windows is unable to connect" when trying to connect to the Talktalk router.

Any ideas how the properties and other details need to be entered for this to work?

The wifi device in the laptop is fine (I've tried two), and it always recognises the Talktalk router, but I've had messages like "unable to validate identity" and "unable to find a certificate".

I have tried many different settings in the Windows "wireless connection properties" > Wireless Network" & advanced settings but none work.

The "Enable IEEE 802.1x" will not uncheck (as one suggestion seen) if WPA and AES are selected for encryption. The network key is correctly entered.

It always used to work fine with no real intervention from me apart from entering the Network Key.

It's as if there's suddenly some new encryption parameters which aren't recognised by the old version of windows.

All other wifi connections on the router work fine.

Given the age of the laptop it may be the bios battery that needs replacing.

The error message regarding certificate occurs when there are date mismatches.

Have you checked the date and time on your taskbar? If this is wrong or you have had to change it recently you will probably find it's not holding when switched off.

If this is the case, search you laptop model on the internet for how to change the battery. It's a small round one that are quite cheap.

Hope it's this.

I think it more likely something wrong with the laptop not the router given other devices are connecting.
