Hi @wJanet1

Unless your cameras support the 5GHz band & connect using Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) minimum to the router, it is not possible to prevent cameras from being jammed. This is done by illegal jamming devices that take advantage of a design problem in older WiFi specifications. Only WiFi 5 cameras, when connected on the 5GHz band (the 2.4GHz band has no protection from this at all), can use a facility called MPF (Management Protected Frames) to protect against this jamming. Alas, the vast majority of cameras only use the 2.4GHz band & thus protection is impossible.

I can only recommend you contact the Police straight away, just because you cannot stop them jamming your cameras, is no reason to put up with this.

Hope someone can give me some advice, I'm having problem with my Wi-Fi cameras being jammed, the noise is terrible, the reason is I'm having problems with our neighbours, they are gaining entry our house during the night, the reason I can't report it to the police is I can't catch them as they are jamming, the Wi-Fi, so I don't feel very safe. Is there anything that can be done to stop them from doing it.

Thanks

wjanet1.

Hi Keith,

Thanks for your help, I looked at the camera info and its dual band 5ghz/2ghz, someone has suggested a hard-wired camera that isn't Wi-Fi, I'M going to contact police, to see what they can do.

Thanks

wjanet1

Hi @wJanet1

Yes, Ethernet-connected cameras will always be best.

Possibly the cameras are outside of the range of the 5GHz band and they are using the 2.4GHz band & thus susceptible to blocking. Even if they are connected via the 5GHz band, they could be using Wi-Fi 4 (802.11n), which is also vulnerable like this.
