Could i ask what this means to the 3.2 million customers that this will effect, are those of us still in contract going to be allowed out of them I for one want to choose which ISP I move to i don't want to be forced to go with the highest bidder!

Sky news today - (20 September)

TalkTalk Group has picked advisers to spearhead a break-up that will lead to the sale of one of Britain's biggest broadband providers.

Sky News has learnt that PJT Partners, the investment bank, is being lined up to handle a strategic review aimed at assessing the optimal timing for a disposal of TalkTalk's remaining businesses.

PJT's appointment is expected to be finalised shortly, City sources said this weekend.

Unfortunately, unless you are out of contract, you will have no choice should this happen.

We have seen this when Shell customers were transferred to TalkTalk and the reverse when TalkTalk customers being transferred to Utility Warehouse.

It's in your contract somewhere and providing your contract price and package is honoured, then any transfer is legal.

By the way, this is just the next phase of something that has been mentioned quite a bit this year.

I bet the majority of customers who recently signed up to another 18 month contract (like myself) were not aware of what has been going on behind the scenes there has been little if no mention of it in the press.

Those customers will be unaware TalkTalk recently borrowed £400m and then a further £100m and laid off a lot of staff to try to reduce financial pressure it comes as no surprise to now read -

"In a perhaps unsurprising development, the TalkTalk Group finally published their annual accounts yesterday and revealed that they made a statutory loss before tax of £465m for the year ended 28th February 2025 (up from £153m last year). The company also lost 420,000 UK broadband customers, leaving them with a group total of 3.2 million"

If i had known they were in this much financial trouble ten months ago when i took out my new contract i would have switched to an ISP of my choice instead of being forced to go with the highest bidder which could mean worse service.

I doubt you will see much effect within the remaining eight months of your contract. And if I had known the wining lottery numbers in advance of yesterday's draw I would have bought a ticket.

What a flippant and stupid answer.

It turns out TT have been in financial trouble for a very long time but customers like me are only finding out now as its making the news and after a little digging we can see just how bad things have been and for how long, the worst thing is its too late for people entering a new 18 month contract to do anything about it, they may be stuck with an ISP they didn't want to be with and if they had known they could have had the choice.

It simply won't make any difference to current customer contracts, @Mini3, as previously explained.

So you sit it out with wherever we end up, and then switch instead of renewing when the contract ends, if you don't like the ISP.

These things are devised to cause minimum disruption to ongoing customers.

Have a look at the community guidelines before you accuse somebody of being "stupid." That fact that you weren't aware of this situation even though it has been in the public domain for many months is no-one's fault but your own.

I doubt that any staff member who can post on this forum has the authority to answer your questions. We are all customers & in the same boat. Wait & see is about the only accurate thing, apart from @fr8ys excellent post on the legal aspects.

It's really up to you to do due diligence on a company when signing up or renewing, not for TalkTalk to inform customers.

This issue has been on-going for a number of years, and was highlighted in many papers financial pages, both in print and online. If you go back to 2020 when TalkTalk was taken back into private ownership, doubts were raised then. Capital investment has been sought since then.

Over the course of the last year speculation has increased with various articles being written on potential options available.

As said, this is just the next phase in this process.

As this is really more of a discussion point and does not require actual help with TalkTalk services from support staff, I am moving this to the lounge.

I posted it as a warning to other customers that may not know they are having full fibre installed by a company that is about to go out of business and is going to tie them into an 18 month contract with an ISP they didn't choose you have now buried it in a forum that is hardly used by anyone shame on you hiding the information.

DJI_ @Mini3 if indeed this is you, you should be aware that this is fundamentally a help forum. If not then we have made you aware now.

Posting topics that do not seek help in the help section delays replies to customers that do require help from support staff.

This is why there is a lounge for posts such as this and it is not unusual for these type of posts to be moved.

I do not need publicly shaming, I am doing what I have been asked to do in trying to keep the forum free for its intended use.

One post informing potential customers they are about to sign up for am 18 month contract when the company is about to be sold tying them into another ISP not of their choosing would have done more good than harm its a single post it was hardly going to " delay replies to customers that do require help from support staff" you should move it back ASAP, think how gutted you would feel if you singed up for 18 months and this happened to you!

Well it may have helped some poor people not tie themselves into a 18 month contract with a company about to go out of business if it was left where it was it serves no purpose here.
