Cannot dial a particular 0208 number

Does anyone have any ideas about this?

I am a TT customer with an 01372 landline number, my girlfriend is a Virgin Media customer with an 0208 landline number. Two weeks ago (July 8th) I suddenly became unable to get through on her landline number, though she could get through to me on mine from her phone. Dialling her number I hear the eleven digits being selected (dit dit dit…), then a continuous low hum, no ringing tone. I can call my mobile, her mobile and other 0208 numbers, indeed all other numbers, perfectly well.

A Talk Talk engineer came and found no fault with my phone. An Open Reach engineer only found a loop fault a few houses away which he corrected but it made no difference. Neither engineer could get through on my g/f’s number. The Open Reach engineer said it was a Virgin problem.

My g/f contacted Virgin and they tested her line but said it was perfectly OK. She hasn’t accidentally blocked my number and anyway, I hear no engaged tone, voicemail or “number unavailable” words, just a steady hum. Other people can call her perfectly well EXCEPT for one friend of hers with an 0208 number who is ALSO a TalkTalk customer.

So what is going on? TalkTalk disclaim responsibility, as does Virgin Media. How do I get this issue resolved?

Do you receive calls OK from other Virgin landlines (if you receive calls from other Virgin landlines)?

I have no problems receiving calls, from Virgin Media numbers or any others. At least one number that I can dial out to IS a Virgin Media number but sadly not my girlfriend's Virgin Media one !!!

I've just tried making a change, could you please retest and let us know if makes any difference
