The external telephone supply cabling to my house is fixed along the back of a neighbour's adjoining house and is preventing them upgrading their house. How can I get the cabling re-routed?

You can contact Openreach by filling in a form giving details.

Not sure though if you or your neighbour should do this as it's their works. Probably your neighbour

That sounds like an odd arrangement. I think it will be something your neighbour might need to resolve. I presume your service is working OK?

Thankyou fr8ys for your reply and information. Do I not have to go through talktalk though?

I always thought you did, but we have seen others go direct as it involves a build, not just a relocation of master socket.

As I and @ferguson have said it's probably your neighbour who needs to arrange (and pay any costs) as part of their build. As far as you are concerned you have a working phone / broadband connection. How it gets into your home isn't your concern. Only the internal wiring is yours.

Openreach have the responsibility for the outside wiring and have chosen the route to your property. If that is on another person's property, they have a responsibility not to disturb that. If they are doing works, then their plans must include mention of utilities and how they will need to be amended to achieve their upgrade. If it's an extension, the architect should include this in their plans.

It's probably worth you while discussing with your neighbour and if needed put in writing that you would like any changes to utilities, be that gas, electric or phones have as minimal a disruption for you.

Will planning permission be required? If so put in writing to the planning department your concerns for your phone and broadband connection, and they should make it a requirement of giving such permission.

Hope this helps.
