Interesting! BT Openreach ducting is always grey. But green ducting is approved for telecommunications use and is used by Virgin Media and other fibre optic installers.

Hi there,

Recently moved house and took my fibre65 with me.
After getting initially setup and with an open reach engineer, it has been determined that under the drive the cable is possibly cut.

For now I've been spurred off my neighbours socket box but if possible I'd like my own cable repaired (especially for when full fibre is rolled out fully here).
I currently get 38mb down and 9mb up.

How do I go about getting my own cable fully repaired?

Thanks,

Craig

Don't worry about it.

If Openreach have connected your line to a spare pair on your neighbour's line cable that's perfectly ok. If Openreach have declared that work to be temporary then they'll already have scheduled a repair visit and I assume will have advised you.

When Full fibre is installed that uses a new fibre optic cable from the distribution chamber to your home and connects to an external box that Openreach will fit to the outside wall close to the entry point for the new Full fibre service. i.e. an entirely new install that Openreach will provide at the time.

Thanks Gondola, that puts my mind at ease.

We do eventually want to re-do the driveway so we might be able to match that up with openreach recabling.
Thanks again!

Just to add that Openreach would normally expect to pull a fibre optic cable through the existing duct and not have to dig for a new duct or repair. They'd pull out the broken cable, rod the duct to remove any obstructions and possibly inspect with a remote camera for any duct damage / collapse. The cable carrying the fibre optic is well protected and a protective sleeve may be pushed through the duct rather than have the delay and expense of a duct dig.

That works for me, thanks for the extra info Gondola.

I can slightly see a green tube in the grass part of the garden, hopefully its that and its an easy cable replacement 😄
