Hello. I have been having intermittent issues with using FaceTime, iMessage, WhatsApp video calls to Canada for a long time now over Wi-Fi. I have even tried video calling on instagram and this is also the same as mentioned. Sometimes, but not often, it connects for a minute or two, then just cuts out. All work when I use 4G data. Please advise.

OK thanks. Could you switch your router off and leave it off for at least 30 minutes, then switch back on and retest. Please let us know how you get on

Chris

Hi,

Turned off router for 45 minutes, had two FaceTime video calls to Canada, first connected then cut off after around a minute, second attempt straight after just rang out as often happens with Canada end not receiving the call.

Thanks for trying that. Does it make any difference who initiates the call, you or the person in Canada?

Chris

As far as I can work out it’s just my end. Canada calls and it gets through but cuts off intermittently. calls last anywhere from seconds - 5+ minutes. Again, when I call it rings out mostly and same with calling on WhatsApp/FaceTime and iMessages not being received even though they say delivered

Do you communicate with anyone else overseas by whatsapp? Does the person in Cananda communicate with anyone else in the UK? If they do they experience any issues with that connection?

I do not communicate with anyone else overseas and the person in Canada communicates with another work colleague in Australia with no issues. It seems to mostly be my end with the issue nearly all the time. It’s very frustrating when on a work call and it cuts and then also not being able to get back to them with a message and having to lay it out in an email. I’m wondering if it’s an internal router setting that needs changing at my end possibly?

I can't see it being a router problem. Do you know which service provider the person in Canada is using?
