Hi Les,

Just a point about your first post, Openreach do own the infrastructure but this also includes the last mile to your home, upto the master socket in your home.

I'm sorry but at the moment we just don't know when FTTC will cease to be available

We are on a TalkTalk FTTC connection, (Believed to be LLU), which actually is perfectly reliable & adequate for our needs (throughput 66/20mbps d/u) AND we prefer to have a landline phone rather than VOIP.

Although TT owns the "last mile" to us, OpenReach/BT own the infrastructure which includes the mains powered DSLAMs at street level. I can see that they would want to rid themselves of those ASAP though there is still the issue of people with special needs such as alarms etc I think still only workable over copper.

Realistically, has anyone got a firm idea how long TalkTalk will be able or want to maintain FTTC? We are in a village which has not just one, but two FTTP networks installed so we do have those options available.

Apologies we don't have any information on this.

As far as I'm aware, everything will move to FTTP but only when the infrastructure is available.

Thanks Debbie for reply.

When you said "everything will move to FTTP but only when the infrastructure is available.", did you mean available at a particular location or just generally across the UK ?

Certainly we have an overprovision of FTTP infrastructure at my location (though I would not consider one of those ISPs on principle, owing to the ongoing amount of grief they have caused our village over a 14+ month period but I won't mention their name, in case Sir Richard is listening ...)

Regards

Les

OK Thanks Chris, I guess the first we will know about it is when either OR or TT want us to move off FTTC.

I'm going to go ahead and renew my contract and wait and see what happens.

Regards

Les

Hi

No Problem 🙂

TalkTalk will often start to email a customer when FTTP is available, or you can periodically check our website for availability within your post code.
