Cannot change router LAN IP

Hi,

I wanted to change the router IP and the DHCP pool to be 10.0.0.x (Router 10.0.0.1, pool 10.0.0.2-254). I also tried this with various other IP combinations such as 10.100.0.x and 172.16.0.x

If you do this, and manage to get round the "Invalid IP Address" errors that sometimes pop up, the router, goes, beserk! 10.x.x.x is a perfectly valid private IP range.

The configuration GUI takes forever to load each page, if you get onto some pages (such as the DHCP page) it boots you straight back to the login page (Console states "Not logged in" despite just logging in), and sometimes those pages just wont load at all. The network speed is appalling (to the router and other network devices).

Looking in the Network tab in developer tools, when this is happening, the page is sending hundreds upon hundreds of requests to the router. You have to physically press and hold the reset button to fix this, even the "Reset" button in the GUI does not function.

My reasoning for changing the IP address initially is that I have some devices that are set on the 10.0.x.x range and I do not wish to reset them (the only way to get them to go back to DHCP without access to them - and wouldn't you know it. my notebook doesn't have an RJ45 port!).

I am at home, but the router is currently back fully reset and sitting on 192.168.1.1

Please let me know if you wish me to change it to the offending addresses and I can do that

No issue with the broadband. It's just the router when you change it's ip address

If you not having any issues with your broadband services, you'll have to search it up on the internet depending on the device you are using, and they should provide steps on how to do this. Thanks

I think we've had a misunderstanding.

There appears to be a firmware fault with the talktalk router where if you change it's LAN IP and DHCP pool it stops functioning properly. This affects my broadband.

I disconnected everything (except laptop from the WiFi) and changed the router LAN IP and the same fault happens.

This is a basic function and I'm surprised no one else has tried or had errors (guessing that tech savvy people generally use different routers!).

So do you want it as it is now (192.168.1.1) or to when it is misbehaving?

It is currently working but it is set to the default IP.

I can help with this. I haven't had any problems changing the router's IP address to anything else in the private IP address ranges, but it has to be done in a three-stage process. Let me know if you want my help. If yes, then please confirm if your 5364 hardware revision V3 or V4?

Hi Keith,

I believe it is V3 (FAST5364 3.00 in the hardware version)

Any pointers for a workaround would be great.

V3 hardware has, in the past, had some issues with IP address-related configuration, but not really where changing the router's IP address is concerned.

The steps are best done in this order:-

Remove any DHCP Reserved IP addresses
Change the DNS address handed out by DHCP
Change the router’s IP address & DHCP IPv4 Pool Start & End ranges to match.

These steps are covered in full below.

First, remove any DHCP Reserved IP Addresses (if you have any) by going to:-

Dashboard > See Wi-Fi Settings > Manage Advanced Settings > TalkTalk Wi-Fi hub > LAN IPv4

Go down to the Reserved IP addresses list

Click on the X in the Options column for any device that has a reserved IP address.

Next, change the DNS address handed out by DHCP via:-

Dashboard > See Wi-Fi Settings > Manage Advanced Settings > TalkTalk Wi-Fi Hub > DNS

Change the DNS address to the new IP address of the router & click Apply.

Now go back to the LAN IPv4 tab & change the router’s IP address to the new one & DHCP IPv4 Pool Start & End ranges to match.

Dashboard > See Wi-Fi Settings > Manage Advanced Settings > TalkTalk Wi-Fi Hub > LAN IPv4

Then click Apply.

If you have any further issues with this, please collate some screenshots showing the configuration you have used & any error messages & PM them to me (to preserve your privacy). When doing so, it is essential that when using the Insert Photos tool on the PM Editor's toolbar, the Size parameter is set to Large. Otherwise, your images are likely to be heavily compressed and unreadable if resized.

I noticed the same thing when trying to change my router's ip & dhcp / pool, applying it would loop back to the login and not update anything. (even disabling dhcp wouldn't apply)

After seeing your post about the browser traffic etc I tried firefox and it worked fine first time, I also had the issue with it randomly looping back to certain pages, or going back to the login screen, so if your are using chrome, try something else.
