Hi All, I’ve committed to a Full Fibre 150 with Digital Voice installation (due on 23rd June) but, whilst trying to get prepared as much as possible, I have a some “niggling” installation queries… hopefully you guys can put my mind at rest?

Power sockets: can I use a 4 or 6 way extension cable (fused and surge protected) from my existing 2 gang plug socket at the installation location?

Eero 6 Hub: can I expand the existing 2 Ethernet ports with a 1 Gbit switch?

Telephone: the existing system is a 3 handset (1 base station & 2 extensions) set up. Would that be suitable to use with Eero 6, assuming that the base station appears due to be connected via a powered digital adapter… in other words, how do the 2 extensions link up (if at all possible)?

Fingers crossed, someone will be able to provide definitive answers in order to put my “haggled/fried” brain at ease. Many thanks in anticipation of some clarity!

Yes, you can use an extension cable.

Yes, you can expand the number of LAN ports on the Eero via a Gigabit switch.

Your phones will connect to the telephone port of the Granstream ATA if you are being supplied with one.

No one mentioned the extension phones. The base station is connected to the Grandstream and the extensions still connect to the base station as they did previously.

Many thanks, all, for the swift replies… they’re very much appreciated! However, without wishing to appear “a little slow on the uptake” with regard to the phones, I’m still confused as to how they all network! They’re not Wi-Fi versions, they’re hardwired to existing extension sockets, each individually powered via it’s own psu (one upstairs and one downstairs)… so unless the master phone ALSO plugs into the existing wall socket, I can’t understand how they will actually link up and work??? Am I overthinking things???

From your description, I thought there was a DECT base station that connects to the Grandstream and extra DECT handsets. Please can you explain how these phones currently all connect together?

Thanks Keith, I’ll try to clarify if I can. The 3 current phones are BT2200 Digital Cordless Phones, each with its own base station and connected to its own telephone socket and power/plug socket in 3 different rooms in the house. As I understand it, the primary/master phone then links to the other 2 phones via the internal extension telephone sockets?

So, if the cable from the primary phone goes into the new phone adapter, and subsequently to the Eero… it will no longer be connected to the existing internal telephone sockets, and surely the 2 extensions will be dead???

If what you describe is correct then this isn't a normal cordless phone installation. the BT2000 is a single DECT base station with DECT extensions that only require power and communicate back to the main phone base station. Under normal circumstances there should be no phone lead going to these cordless extensions, only power. From your description it sounds like you have 3 x BT2000 base stations.

Ahh, many thanks mrwrighty!… and I’m now significantly embarrassed after checking the extensions, because it’s actually only the primary phone which connects to the telephone wall socket, whilst the other 2 are actually just sitting in charging bases (hence being powered)! SO, it would appear that I’ve probably been confusing myself over nothing, since I assume that the primary phone can actually just be connected to the Eero (via the adapter) and then link to the 2 extensions as it does currently!

Apologies guys, in my totally confused/brain addled state, and through the power of overthinking, I’ve just completely well and truly embarrassed myself before the TalkTalk Community members on here… ah well, at least I’ve got the answers I needed before the fast approaching installation date. Many thanks indeed for your patience and advice, it’s greatly appreciated!

Hey not a problem, we all have brain freeze moment. Glad you are sorted so yes the base unit will connect to the Eero via the Grandstream and the other extensions carry on as they do now.
