Connecting to Full Fibre Query

Hello,

I have seen that full fibre is being installed on my road and will probably become available as an upgrade option soon. My question is due to my property being approx. 120 meters from the road (accessed by a private lane) how will the engineer likely want to get the full fibre to my house.

If there's an existing underground duct or telephone poles for the existing telephone line then you may be lucky in that there's a wayleave agreement for Openreach and a fibre optic connection may be provided when you order a Full Fibre service. However, that's no assurance that Openreach will consider the distance acceptable and you may need additional funding by way of the BDUK Gigabit broadband voucher scheme that your chosen ISP will need at the time of ordering a Full Fibre service.

If the fibre installer is not Openreach then first they'd need a wayleave agreement to be in place.

If you own the lane and verges along which the existing telephone line passes then you would have the benefit of a wayleave agreement with Openreach that basically gives Openreach the right to install, keep and maintain their telecommunications infrastructure. If the only premises served are your own then there may not be a written wayleave agreement but an inferred agreement that allows Openreach to install, keep and maintain their telecommunications infrastructure to provide the service to your premises.

Other providers would usually seek the landowner's wayleave agreement before installing but there is an expectation that existing poles and ducts will be shared by Openreach so long as capacity is available.

So, key questions:

How is your existing telephone service delivered?
Is it Openreach or another provider delivering Full Fibre to your area?

All providers will usually do a maildrop to all local residents to let them know what's happening and when.
