The gateway eero must be set up via the eero app. There's no other option.

Do you have an existing broadband connection to the Internet?

Connect the eero to an existing router so it can get an Internet connection. You can set up the eero app and eero using an existing wired (Ethernet) connection from the eero to a yellow router port and a wi-fi connection from your 'phone rather than use mobile data to connect to the Internet. You can start the setup using the wi-fi from the existing router to connect to the Internet.

The eero and eero app will pair together using bluetooth. To complete the setup of the eero, disable the wi-fi from the existing router so it doesn't interfere with the eero wi-fi that you can then connect to via your 'phone.

Once set up you can remove the eero until the go-live date. Then when your service goes live you'll be all set up ready to go. Just follow the new setup instructions for removing the existing router and connecting up the eero hardware.
