Hi, I wanted to use my Chromecast 3rd gen with my projector. I did factory reset, run setup through Google Home app, all was good and connecting until setup finished. I see that Chromecast is connected to WiFi in eero app, but I can't connect to it through Google Home app and it's not visible whenever I try to cast something. It's weird, because it worked briefly, couple days ago then suddenly stopped working. I tried rebooting router, my smartphone, Chromecast, did factory reset Chromecast multiple times and nada, won't work. Chromecast connects to WiFi on 5Ghz, I've already seen different posts on reddit and other websites where people say this is the problem. No vpn, standard settings on the router.

Thanks in advance for any advice on this.

Martin

Update:

Within eero app Chromecast is connected through 5GHz WiFi, wanted to try toggling guest network on or off, as I've read that although seemingly unrelated to Chromecast' connection to home network, apparently it solved the problem for some people. And guess what? As soon as I switched guest network ON, Chromecast displayed "connecting to [home network SSID, not guest network]" and became available for casting immediately.

Does anyone understand how or why this worked?

@Anonymous has asked me to help you. When you enabled the guest network and it started to work, please can you confirm if the Chromecast was still connected to the Eero's 5GHz main SSID and worked OK?

Thanks @Anonymous for looking at my issue here.

Hi @KeithFrench, that's correct, Chromecast was connected to main SSID on 5GHz before and after enabling guest network. It was displaying/updating background pictures and showing correct time before and after. Only it became visible to my smartphone as "cast to" device after enabling guest network. Eero came up with (not set by me) password for guest network within Eero app, which I never input anywhere (so nothing should be able to connect to guest network). When going through setup process of the Chromecast, I provided the password that already exists for main SSID only.

It doesn't make sense...?

On the other hand, my printer is connected to WiFi and it's (and always been) accessible to every device on my home network.

Thanks,

Martin

Just tested it and to my surprise, after disabling guest network and rebooting Chromecast, it is still visible to other devices, eg my smartphone. So it seems there is something (setting/parameter) that is changed when guest network is turned on, although it might have nothing to do with guest network itself.

I'd say as for now the problem appears to be solved. I'll post an update if it suddenly stops working again.

Thanks
