I'm having full fibre 500 installed in a few weeks. Does anyone know if I can use my current TP link archer c64 router instead of the supplied Amazon eeros 6? Is the ONT box a modem that can be plugged straight into my current router?

The ONT effectively works as a modem as far as a router is concerned and yes, you can continue to use your own if you wish.

To add - While there are instructions on how to set up a non TalkTalk router you should find that you don't need to do anything and your router will figure it out but if there's any issue, those instructions are here:- https://community.talktalk.co.uk/t5/Articles/Set-up-a-non-TalkTalk-router/ta-p/2205383 Keep hold of your Eero though as TalkTalk may want it back and it's no use to you outside of the TalkTalk world.

As I've mentioned elsewhere, I use a Unifi router and it set itself up in seconds, it's way my powerful with much more functionality than an Eero but the Amazon devices certainly work for the non teccy user.

Hi @Robsy1

@Gliwmaeden2 has asked me to help you.

Slow speed, intermittent dropouts, breaks in the signal or no signal on some or all devices or no internet access might be caused by Wi-Fi interference from other local networks, which can also lead to a permanent reduction in speed. No ISP can be responsible for your local environment, this is mainly a byproduct of the popularity of Wi-Fi.

However, other factors should be investigated first. When this happens, what is the status displayed in the app for the internet connection? Do you have any wired connections & if so, how do they perform?

Generally speaking, the 2.4GHz band suffers a lot more from interference than the much faster 5GHz band, but the 2.4GHz one can sometimes have a better range, but this all depends on your local area.

In other words, I try to help you optimise your Wi-Fi connection. The next stage involves sending out a guide to you to help you get me some important diagnostic results so that I can analyse them for you and recommend changes to your router configuration to solve them.

I only send this out to people who request it.

Whilst the eero is supposed to manage Wi-Fi interference, if this is very bad, particularly in the 2.4GHz band, then it cannot do anything about it, no router can. The same goes for any router at that point. Other things that may then need to be investigated are its location within your property and the WiFi bands that you use. It is possible that you may also need to purchase additional eero nodes as it is supposed to operate as part of a mesh system. I can help with any of this. However, I would suggest that you follow my help to find out what the root cause of the problem is, before throwing money at it.

Thanks for the reply, I will go through all the troubleshooting after the weekend. I've disconnected all other WiFi devices, smart home etc too test just the eero WiFi. Wired connections euro fine speed is good, laughably this modern tower only has one ethernet port but that can be dealt with. The WiFi signal from the eero is simply not great. Didn't reach my back garden at all, getting a weak signal in living room and intermittent signal in the kitchen. I think the only answer is going to be mesh extenders but I will try messing with setup. It's disappointing as my old c64 archer router had great signal over all floors to all rooms and the garden.
