I have purchased an extra couple of Eero routers to improve the WIFI coverage in my house. These are locked to a different ISP. They are working but I am not getting the Eero secure. Is there anyway I can change the ISP on the Eero router?

Hello,

If they are locked to a different ISP then it may not be possible. Where did you purchase the eeros?

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but quite often a sweep is made by ISPs and any of their routers that are locked and not on the appropriate network will be disabled and not work at all.

TalkTalk do this with their locked routers from time to time

Were you made aware at time of purchase they were locked? If not then contact the seller and request a refund.

They may continue to work but you will not get the same security that TalkTalk offer, but should work as extenders.

Did you know that the latest generation Alexas will work as extenders, but only up to 100mbps. There are other restrictions but I've not noticed any issues using them.

Thanks for the reply. I was not made aware they were locked.

If they are just being used on the internal mesh in my home can they get locked by the ISP? If not I could move a talktalk router (eero pro 6) to be the Gateway device and use these (eero Pro 6E) to be internal only.

That may work. It's worth trying as you've got them.

I'll ask @KeithFrench to give a view as our resident expert and then you can decide whether to keep them or try for a refund as being not as described.

That will cause the Pro 6Es to be the same as the lesser eero. However, this is an unusual case because of the hardware differences. The Pro 6 has the 2.4GHz plus two 5GHz radios. The Pro 6E has the 2.4GHz, one 5GHz plus the 6GHz band. The safest thing, undoubtedly, is to return them to the seller.
