Unfortunately TalkTalk have no control over how fibre will enter your property. They can only give broad generalisations that have been provided by their partners OpenReach and City Fibre.

It may be that your existing line, which is probably OpenReach, enters via an overhead connection, and that fibre has been installed in your area underground by either OpenReach or another company. In these circumstances it's most likely that is why you have been advised regarding your block paving.

Installation will be in the hands of a surveyor or installer and should be discussed in detail with you during that visit.

As to installing ducting yourself, you may place this in an inaccessible place either for entry from the street connection, or entry to your home.

It sounds like you have previously discussed this and found it unsatisfactory, so I'm not sure what more TalkTalk can do here.

Do you know if this was via OpenReach? If so you may be able to ask them direct by completing the form here

https://www.openreach.com/building-developers-and-projects/altering-our-network/for-consumer-and-business-customers

You are in the staffs queue if you'd rather hold on. It may be they have notes as to their fibre partner on record and confirm next steps, if there is anything they can help with.

Hi

According to TalkTalk:-

Will the engineer need to dig up my garden?

If your broadband is currently connected to your home by an overhead cable then we won't need to do any digging to install your fibre broadband. If your broadband cable is underground, the engineer will need to dig a narrow channel on your driveway or in your garden to connect your house to our fibre network. The engineer will agree with you the most effective route and will leave your property as close to how we found it.

I've been offered Fibre on a couple of occasions but when the engineer has done the site survey they have not been able to guarantee replacing garden block paving 'as was'.

My first question is, is there any reason I can't install trunking myself thus ensuring a good finish. If this is acceptable at what depth should it be laid and what is ideal diameter?

Second question. My current broadband comes into the property via an overhead telephone cable and the above extract from TalkTalk suggests that, if that is the case, no digging is required anyway.

Could you please enlighten me?

Thank you.

Carl

Thanks for your swift response. City Fibre are the contractors I have dealt with in the past but the question of installing trunking myself didn't occur to me at the time. Is it advisable I should contact City Fibre regarding trunking depth and size, if so could you provide best contact details please.

Thanks once again for the quick response.

Regards

Carl

Sorry, I don't but staff may be able to help tomorrow.

Just a thought though. If you are happy to do the job yourself, why not let city fibre do the duct and you say to them you will redo the block paving yourself?
