I have added a device (a transceiver radio) to my network.

It appears correctly on the Device List but without an IP Address. So I have added an IP Reservation using an IP in the range of the other devices, 192.168.5.15, but there is no connection and Ping does no connect.

Is there something about IP Reservation....?

You should never apply a static IP address (unless you really mean a DHCP reserved IP address) within the IP address range (DHCP Scope). However, in this case, it sounds like this device is not connecting correctly to the router. Can you please remind me of the make/model of the router you have? Does this device connect via wireless or Ethernet?

The device may have ICMP (PING uses this) disabled, a number of devices and a lot of routers do these days, it improves security. You could try a Windows utility called TCPing, that should work.

Does this device actually work?

Have you actually checked the IP address allocation on the device itself? It is not just the IP address that needs to be allocated. It will need four things:-

IP address

Subnet mask - should be 255.255.255.0

Default Gateway - should be 192.168.1.1

DNS server - should be 192.168.1.1

DNS is 192.168.4.1

The subnet mask for my wlan shows that all my devices have addresses outside the permitted range. That is what I was told by the control software poeople. However I read elsewhere that the permitted range for IP 192.168.4.1 with a subnet mask of 255.255.252.0 is 192.168.4.1 to 192.168.7.254

With a mask of 255.255.252.0 the IP address will be as follows:-

Network address: 192.168.4.0

Router: 192.168.4.1

First host address: 192.168.4.2

Last host address: 192.168.7.254

Broadcast address: 192.168.7.255

Now, the DHCP address range within the eero app may well limit the address range to a smaller group of addresses.

If the device is working OK, then there is no problem really.
