Old BT Socket and Copper Cable Query

Hi,

Just over a week ago I was switched to Full Fibre and was wondering about the old copper line from the outside access point to the old indoor BT Landline socket.

I asked the engineer, who swapped my connection to Fibre, if I could remove the old cable and box. He told me to wait a week to make sure I had no problems and then it would be fine to remove them.

I am about to redecorate and would now like to remove these items, but, thought it would be a good idea to double check. If there is anyone out there who can confirm it’s ok, then I will go ahead and remove them.

Personally, I can’t see a problem as that line should now be fully disconnected from the network, but I don’t know for sure…

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Regards,

You can certainly remove anything internal to the house.

How does the line come into your home? If by pole you will certainly need to request OpenReach to remove.

If underground, and if any cable is exposed up to the house, i suggest you fill in the form to make certain you can remove as outside the property the cable belongs to OpenReach.

Link to the form here

The bottom cable is the copper connection. I presume the green and white wires are what would have been connected back to the exchange(?).
Regards,

It's great to hear that you've successfully switched to Full Fibre! Based on your description, it sounds like the engineer provided you with sound advice. If you've been using your new fibre connection without any issues for over a week, it's likely that the old copper line and box are no longer needed. Kindly refer to @fr8ys' response for a way to proceed with this.

-Fez.

That just looks like a random earth wire coming out of the brickwork, is it anything to do with the Openreach connection?

If you want to remove the old master socket and redecorate feel free, you can just tuck any old cabling back in the cavity.

I was talking to the engineer when he was disconnecting the copper and fitting the fibre. He put those 2 wires where they are, outside of the cover plate.

Regards,

If the OpenReach guy gave you advice you should be able to follow it, but the general rule is OpenReach own everything up to the property, and internally you can remove beyond the master plug, but if it's no longer in operation you can remove internally to the point of entry.

I suggest you seek advice externally explaining you feel competent to remove it from x to y and include photos, and ask if you can proceed.

We, nor TalkTalk can give you authority to remove, what is a third parties property.
