I'll answer my own question. No, it's rather poor. Why do I say this? Well, on the 22nd May 2025 after waiting 3 months I was finally upgraded to full fibre 150 with the EERO 6 and at first everything seemed great. All my devices successfully connected. I ran a speed test on my PC and was dismayed to see that download was actually slower that my previous Fibre35 service at about 30Mbs. On navigating the EERO6 app I discovered that my all my 5ghz devices, apart from my smart TV and android phone, were connected to 2.4ghz.

The problem is that EERO does this automatically and what it thinks is best. There appears to be no way to manually override the settings, so my PC and Fire HD tablet are stuck on the slow 2.4Ghz band which kind of defeats the benefits of the full fibre 150 upgrade.

I spent some time researching the issue and could not find a solution or workaround so I've put my previous Tp-link AC2800 modem router back in to service and managed, after some technical help from Tp-link support, to configure it successfully.

Now I'm getting 148+Mbs from the PC speed test result and all my devices connected correctly.

I think the EERO and it's app need more work. Just sayin'.

Hi @activexp

It is the devices that decide which Wi-Fi band to connect to, not the eero. They make this decision based on any properties set in the adapter (typically, only some Windows PCs expose this in the UI) and the signal quality. This is based not only on signal strength, but also on the lack of Wi-Fi interference.

Now it is reasonable to say that the signal quality is poor from your eero, which can only be assessed via a WiFi analyser. I do offer extensive & free help doing this. It is also fair to say that you may well need an extra eero, so that they work in a mesh. You often see them sold in packs of three at Amazon for example. In most properties, they are fine with two units, but a third can actually slow it down.

Hi, thanks for your reply and advice.

I don't think that signal strength or interference is the issue as the PC is about 15 ft from the eero with no solid wall or other obstruction in the way. The Fire HD is about 6 ft away. The app showed full signal strength for both devices. My son who has a PC in an upstairs room has told me that initially he got 140+ Mbs on speed test but a day or two later it had dropped to 30. When I looked at the app I saw that both PC's and the tablet had been switched from 5ghz to the 2.4 Ghz band.

Rather than buying another eero I'll stick with my Tp-link Ac2800 which seems to be doing a decent job at the moment with good speeds.

Hi @Magic76

They have probably said your devices are incompatible with an Eero, because it doesn't support WPS. However, I do have a workaround.

If you want help, you cannot use someone else's thread.

To get help, you must start your own thread. To create your own thread, go to the main page for the board in question & click the "Start a topic" button.

TalkTalk insists on one thread per problem per customer. Please note, TalkTalk makes the rules, not me.

Thanks.
