Router won’t give sky Q box ip address

I have had a sky Q box for years and also been with talk talk for a long time but I have never been able to get the sky Q box to connect to the router. Please can someone look into this.

on the sky box I have reset network settings and I have followed a number of steps posted on this forum all to have failed.

When I have logged onto the router I can see the sky box is there there on 2.4 g network when I look at the device on the router there is no ip address assigned. The router has found the MAC address of the device . I have also tried to reserve an ip address on the router but all have failed.

I keep getting a message on the sky Q box saying not connected. I have also used the rest network setting on the sky Q box

In summary I connect the sky box to the router using the option connect to WiFi from another broad band provider ( on the sky box)

I find the network and select it

I enter the password and confirm

sky box says connecting for about 2 minuets

it then says there was a problem connecting to broadband router

when login to router on the 2.4 g network I can see the sky device along with the MAC address but it has no ip address

If all other devices are connecting ok then it's not an issue with the router.

Searching the internet there are many eople who have a similar problem to you and they have sought help on the Sky forum.

Most replies seem to suggest disabling the 5ghz band temporarily and once connected re-enabling it.

Some say you have to follow the wifi resetting of your sky box exactly, so I suggest you have a look on there and if you still have an issue seek help on that forum.

If you need specific help with the router settings then please post back with details of the router you have and someone will be able to help.

Please can you explain why the router does not assign an ip address to the device? Even if I try to reserve a ip address on the router no ip is given

I have already switch off 5 g and used the 2.4 g only and had the same issue.

please get someone to look at this issue. I have is a screen shot of the device on the router but as you can see no ip address is assigned( I have blacked out the MAC address)

If you believe this to be a sky issue please specify here as it a pubic forum and I can refer to sky to this if required

this is not accurate. If you look at my previous issues with my iPhone X and talk talk network you can see it was an issue on the talk talk network with the specific device.

I do feel this is a talk talk issue.

The thing with Sky Q boxes is that they transmit as well as receive WiFi. Have you tried giving it a fixed IP address?

Other than that you really will need to reach out to Sky for any further help. TalkTalk cannot support third-party devices.

I have tried giving it a fix ip but it has failed in the past. I will try it again and come back to you.

I have also added a post the sky forum and will be linking this post once they respond as as a user of services I should not be trying to figure out who is responsible for this issue. I will also be adding this liking to the sky forum chat. So it visible from both sides.

It is not a question of finding who is "responsible," you just want a fix, right? There are many variables in the weird and wonderful world of connected devices, that is why there are so many of us volunteering out there to help beyond the realms of the suppliers who sell us these shiny things!

If all else fails, try a direct ethernet wired connection if that is feasible. It is what I resorted to after much angst when I had a Sky Q box many years ago, so I have been through it.

The problem is that both the TalkTalk router & SkyQ use their own mesh networks and as such, are not compatible when connected over WiFi. The only recommended connection method is to use an Ethernet cable to connect them together.

Ah, depends on settings. But yes indeed. Probably for not much longer, though. 😉
