Hi nicky62

I've just been liaising with another user late yesterday and this morning. It seems that the issue with mailbox access and buffered / delayed delivery that I'd reported to TalkTalk on 17th but that persisted until TalkTalk eventually got around to fixing on 20th may still be having an impact on users. I thought, based on my view of the incident, that the delayed deliveries had been flushed out of the system by around 2:15pm on 20th, but maybe not for all mailboxes.

The issue that you see is a fault with mailbox access probably as a consequence of the failure on 17th. Your mailbox may have been corrupted and if so needs to be repaired. So make no changes at your end. TalkTalk will need to raise a fault ticket. I'll request and TalkTalk Support will respond here.

Today had no problem logging in to my TalkTalk webmail; however logged on around an hour ago - every message has gone, including sent, trash, archive

Is this temporary, will they reappear at some point soon?

Thank you

I've just checked my current mailbox and that's ok.

Bearing in mind that I think the earlier issue was slow or no access to the mailbox server then the absence of content in the mailbox folders may just be a cache problem and the folder contents just need refreshing from the mailbox server.

So, what I would do is sign out of TalkTalk Mail webmail, clear the browser cache and cookies, close the browser, launch the browser and sign in to TalkTalk Mail once more. You'll need to accept the Privacy Manager Settings again. Hopefully, starting with new cookies and a new sign in will mean a complete refresh of the mailbox.

I do need access to email activity for last 18 hrs odd; when do you think activity may be restored?

Thanks

How are you collecting your TalkTalk mails into Gmail? Auto forwarding from TalkTalk webmail? POP3 mail collection? Using a Gmail desktop mail app or mobile app?

Auto forwarding isn't a reliable method at the best of times. For other methods of interfacing Gmail with TalkTalk Mail you need secure mail settings.

As for estimating when activity may be restored only TalkTalk can tell you that after they investigate the issue.

Yes, worked out my plan to migrate emails into gmail - following google instructions to change my email address in my talktalk profile is a non-starter; so I'll switch it back

But I need email access soonest; if it's restored my early afternoon it's not end of world but longer than that becomes a problem -

Have now read details by Nick Cox about changing email settings - why were we not advised to do this before Talktalk revised their new encryption process;

I haven't received any emails in run up advising to save important emails

& now my webmail in compromised enough without fiddling about inputting new settings - which I am concerned to learn may be days before up and runnin

I need to view emails as soon as possible - cannot wait further days; if talktalk cannot provide me with their webmail for access surely they can temporarily transfer them to another email account that is working, same way as you do when phone is out of action and calls are transferred to my mobile phone

My son has temp coaching details which are sent via my email which we need to access soonest

Yes all is restored and good

Red herrings in this situation are

Nickcox99 information at top of community email section whereby he states what those have lost email access should be doing to reinstate settings....

When I called Talktalk to get idea of how long service was likely to be before restored and learn if temporarily I could migrate emails elsewhere - again before speaking to adviser I was told to press 1 and that an SMS message would be texted with instructions for re-setting my email; I pressed 1 and was connected to a bot - went round in circles with bot before being connected to Patricia - no set of instructions at all for re-setting email. All a bit odd

Without those 2 events being in the picture I too, would have accepted this simply as email service crashing; certainly not helped by NickCox99 saying that resetting details alone would not enable service to be restored - just step one in order to enable future access;
