I am using Thunderbird v.102.14.0 (64-bit) to send and receive emails. 5 of the accounts I use are the Talktalk provided accounts, one is a gmail account and one is an apple account. All work fine except the Apple account which comes in two versions: "@me" and "iCloud".

Other people can send emails to me using either version but when I try to send using the "me" account I get the following:

Sending emails to myself using "@iCloud" no email is delivered.

My email setting for this pair of accounts is as follows. I have replaced my name with <name> for security:

IMAP

name = imap.mail.me.com

Port = 587

User name = <name> not <name>@me.com

Security = SSL/TLS

Authentication = Normal Password

SMTP

name = smtp.mail.me.com

Port = 993

user name = <name>

Security = SSL/TLS

Authentication = Normal Password

Both the "@me" and the "@iCloud" versions have app-specific passwords. I believe the settings above are what Talktalk recommend.

I would be most grateful for your views on this as this account has been unavailable for over a year now and Apple Community cannot advise.

You've got the incoming and outgoing server settings mixed up.

Email Settings for Me.com

Incoming Server - IMAP

Server: imap.mail.me.com
Port: 993
Security: SSL/TLS
Username: Your full email address
Password: Your password

Outgoing Server - SMTP

Your quite right! Just a typo. They are set as per your response.

I also note you are suggesting the full email address for both in and out. Reading the various advice on Talktalk, Apple and Thunderbird the consensus is <name> only but try the full address if this fails. I will check this.

Thanks.

Thunderbird and mail.me requires the full email address as Username.

Check the Thunderbird SMTP Connection security also as that requires STARTTLS not the SSL/TLS that you'd written down.

Just checked the user names. With or without the "@me.com" or "@iCloud.com" I still get the same error - smtp lost in middle of transaction"

Screenshot the mail.me account SMTP server settings from Thunderbird, image edit to obscure the first part of the email address and upload here using the Camera icon above this reply area.

Have you set up the mail.me account in another email client e.g. BlueMail desktop email app just to troubleshoot to determine if this is an issue related to Thunderbird or if the mail.me SMTP server is just dropping the connection.
