Outlook email account settings

I am trying to set up my email account in outlook and have used my email address and set the incoming mail as POP3 and outgoing server as SMTP but when I test the connection I get the message check your login details which are set the same as my web mail, any ideas as what the problem might be.

Has the email address been in regular use and which version of Outlook are you using?

The login could be rejected if the server settings are not accepted as a secure connection to the talktalk.net mail servers or if the email address is not recognised for an IMAP or POP3 connection or if the password is deemed to be weak.
