Suddenly unable to send emails from my own domain email address

I've had my own domain, lets call it mydomain.com, for getting on for 25 years. In all that time, as a customer of Pipex, then Tiscali and now TalkTalk I've been able to send emails identified as coming from me@mydomain.com. As of a couple of days ago, I get this warning: "Sender address rejected: not owned by user 3@10880114.". So now I have set the sending email address to me@dsl.pipex.com to be able to send emails. What has changed and why?

I've got exactly the same problem. Suddenly I get the "Sender address rejected: not owned by user 3@9993065" when sending from a domain I have owned for many years through 123-reg.co.uk via Pipex. This uses email forwarding so incoming emails end up in my various dsl.pipex.com mailboxes and this still works. No warning of anything changing. Just suddenly cannot send any of my normal emails. How do I register my domain(s) as I own mydomain.me.uk as well as mydomain.uk as safe domains that are owned by me and therefore OK to send from?

Hi fmob22, the servers won't permit sending from non TalkTalk addresses domains for security reasons and security have made the changes for the protection of all our customers. As you'll no doubt be aware spammers frequently forward mail through legitimate servers to prevent blocking of their mails.

I kind of thought that's what you'd say, but spammers have been doing that since the year dot and TT only make a change in October 2024...?

This affects 3 domains I own, including one I use for my own small business. I can no longer send emails that originate from me@mybusiness.co.uk to my customers.

I agree with @SuperSwede66 , there needs to be a mechanism where we can associate our owned domains with our TT account.

The ability to register your own domain(s) is far too sensible a thing for TalkTalk to implement for their customers. Sadly.

I think I will contact 123-reg and see if I can send emails via them instead as the domain(s) are registered with them. Maybe you can do the same thing with your domain provider @fmob22?

Hi fmob22, you'll notice we no longer supply web domains we used to but support costs and hosting costs far outweighed the profit/value so those services were dropped many years ago. We also used to allow mail forwarding until it became unsustainable due to the volume of traffic mostly spam. I'm sorry the mail service as it stands doesn't work for you, but its not going to revert to allowing mail forwarding.

Hi Ady.

I've used the same setup since I first registered with Pipex back in 2002 and was using Netscape as my email client! It's just come as a bit of a shock to have the rug pulled from under my feet, as it were. But I guess I have no choice thanks to those darn spammers ☹️

@SuperSwede66, I'll have to try and setup mail on my hosting provider, Easily. But the UI of their web based portal is a nightmare, so much so that Easily is certainly a misnomer 😳
