One other thing, if you have used your email password on other accounts, especially financial ones where they may have sent you an email or where you have stored emails in folders within your email account, I suggest you log on to those accounts and check your transactions, and change the passwords on those accounts.

I have not received any emails since the beginning of January. Many of my contacts have been sent begging letters supposedly coming from me. I think someone has managed to get into my email account.

Did you receive an email allegedly from TalkTalk asking you to log in to keep your account running, or some such wording?

Did you click on the link and log in or give your email account details?

If so this is how your account has been compromised.

Log in now and change your password to one you have not previously used.

Then check to see if there is a forwarding email address set up. If so delete it. It's possible your emails have been received by your account but immediately forwarded and deleted so you were not aware of any issues

Check your contacts. Sometimes scammers will delete your address book. If you still have your contacts, save or export your contact list so you have a copy.

Please put the affected email address in the private notes field of your community profile, which only you and support staff can see, and staff will be able to take a look to see if anything else needs be done.

Please post back once you have taken the action above.

Thank you.

You are in the staff's queue for a response.
For a quicker reply can you please ensure you have your personal information up to date in your profile including your TalkTalk landline phone number so your account can be traced. Link here - https://community.talktalk.co.uk/t5/user/myprofilepage/tab/personal-profile:personal-info
If you are unsure of your phone number, you can find this in My Account or dial 17070 from your landline phone and this will confirm the number for you.
You can also add your account number in the private notes field, which only you and the support staff can view.
Please post back when done.
Thank you

Hi poppy20, all your mail was being diverted to an email ending mail.com. I've disabled the divert for you. You need to reset the mailbox password to a new one you've never used before. You should also run an antivirus and malware scan on all your internet devices.

Any lost mail is lost for good. TalkTalk don't keep backups so once mail is deleted off the servers its gone. We do advise to keep backups of any important files.
