No links clicked. Just ran an AV scan and all clear.

No sign of spam going out.

There does seem to have been a server download glitch at c.09:40 yesterday where you end up with duplicates of emails in your inbox.

I'll try changing passords next.

Just noticed that emails were downloading until 21:39 yesterday and then stopped - there's half a dozen emails on the web server that haven't downloaded.

QUESTION: I don't see an option to change passwords on the web server (in apps.talktalk.co.uk) - can this only be done through the downloaded version of Windows Live Mail? I guess I'm asking if its the WML password I'm changing or the Talktalk password?

My wife and I share a common account domain using Windows Live Mail. She has been sending emails to members of a society we are in so I'm wondering if Talktalk has blocked the account assuming it is spam. My account is fine.

As of today she is getting the message below and if I go into the apps.talktalk.co.uk she gets the message further below (No 2):

Error message No1 [I have gone in and checked the password which is correct. An AV scan shows no issues]

Unable to send or receive messages for the Talktalk (***.********) account. An incorrect password was entered. The next time you send or receive messages, you'll be asked to enter your user name and password for this account.

Server Error: 0x800CCC90
Server Response: -ERR [AUTH] Authentication failed.
Server: 'mail.talktalk.net'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC92
Protocol: POP3
Port: 995
Secure(SSL): Yes

Error Message No2 in apps.talktalk.co.uk

(554 - 554 5.7.1 <***.*******@talktalk.net>: Sender address rejected: You are blocked sending mail)

Did she respond to a mail, purportedly from TalkTalk, asking her to verify her email account?

It sounds like spammers have taken control of her account, and responding to a link in an email is one way they access accounts.

She, and I'd recommend you too, change your passwords to something that you have not previously used before. This should help free the account, but if it does not please post back so the account can be looked into more fully by staff as it may need unlocking by technical staff.

I'd also run a virus and malware scan on your devices in case a key logger has been installed.

Also recommended you export or save your contacts as some malicious scammers have been known to delete them.

Please let us know how you get on.

Hi Triarii, she needs to reset the password for that mailbox to one she's never used before. Once that's done retest if it still isn't working and she's restarted the mail client let me know.
