Setting up filter rules

Hi ya as you may know o am having issues with e mails going straight to my spam on webmaster

So the tech department have asked me to set upnl filter rules.

What i don't understand is why have I got to set up the rules and have certain emails going to the filter rule box thing.

Does this mean. I will have an extra place for certain emails to go to instead of my normal inbox?

I also have to set up a TT mail app on my phone which i don't want to do.

I don't understand all this and all I want is my emails to go to my normal inbox and not spam.

Plus what do I do about my email client on my PC?

I think you mean some emails going straight to the Spam folder of you email address, instead of going to the Inbox folder of your email address. This occurs because TalkTalk/Open-Exchange perform their own 'spam filtering' on your incoming emails, to separate what they think are spam emails, from ordinary emails. Often TalkTalk/Open-Exchange miscategorise the emails which they separate into the Spam folder.

The tech department would have asked you to set up your own filter rules, within webmail, in order to correct/reverse some of the incorrect separating by TalkTalk/Open-Exchange.

The emails that TalkTalk/Open-Exchange separates, already go to a special place, which is called the Spam folder. There is no need to create a new folder.

You don't have to set up a TT mail app on your phone. All this, can be done on your PC, via TalkTalk webmail, on your browser.

First, you need to deal with this, via TalkTalk webmail, on your browser.

Then go back and use you email client.

I am sorry, I seem to have picked you up on everything.

That's the basics, but I can add something later if you're interested.

Oh, I forgot. How many emails per day are you getting in you Spam folder, which you have recognised as legitimate emails, and which should be left in the Inbox folder, when the TalkTalk/Open-Exchange server receives them?

I kinda understand what you're saying and I wish TT explained that to me as I thought I had done something wrong.

I definitely don't understand the filter rules and can't get it to work but that's TT's techy problem tomorrow when they call me back.

I just don't want to have to create extra folders to check for my emails.

Not sure on how many e mails a day go to spam but I do a regular updates on a food bank list I compile and I often miss emails because they end up in spam and then I highlight them as no spam and now I add them to trusted sender's so hopefully that will work.(I will find out in a few weeks when I get replies)

The standard folders in TalkTalk webmail are:

Inbox, Drafts, Sent, Spam, Trash(Deleted), and Archive

You don't need to delete any, or add any new ones.

For the time being, until it's fixed, you'll have to log into TalkTalk webmail, now and then, and move any incorrectly categorised spam emails, from the Spam folder to the Inbox folder (or you can use 'Not Spam'). Adding them as trusted senders is good as well.

You can then use your email client.

Neither do I.

I am trying as hard as I can to understand them.

I understand quite a few of them, but not all.

The problem is that TalkTalk/Open-Xchange have failed to provide any documentation or guidance, to using the various 'spam filters'. Some of them do not need any guidance, but some definitely do

I have already asked the TalkTalk Support Team staff, here in this Community, to ask for the documentation. But they have so far ignored me.

I hope tomorrow's call, is somewhat successful.

I finally think i have sorted my problem as i was setting up the filter rule wrong by choosing the wrong options.

The lady on the phone was very patient with me and talked me though every thing and the case remains open for five days so if i have any problems i can call them back.
