I've been having problems sending emails. Some get through. Some are bounced back with the following:

SMTP error from remote server for MAIL FROM command, host: hotmail-com.olc.protection.outlook.com (52.101.137.1) reason: 550 5.7.1 Unfortunately, messages from [74.208.4.196] weren't sent.

Please contact your Internet service provider since part of their network is

on our block list (S3140). You can also refer your provider to http:/

There is a known issue with the google and hotmail servers.

The backroom specialists are discussing to get this resolved.

Please add your affected email address to your private notes field so staff can add you yo the on-going issue.

Dear amahle-

I hope I'm putting this in the right place to reply to your question of about 17 Oct 2025, 8:45 am, UK time? (Not rhetorical... I'll try to note any answer)

As far as I am aware(!) incoming email is not my problem.

Further details of my case: For a preliminary scan, I use Firefox to access the webserver where my emails are available. I rarely use the webface to SEND emails, and probably none of the bounced emails were sent that way. (It is SENDING that has been my problem.)

After I've seen (and perhaps weeded) the incoming emails, I use Thunderbird with POP/SMTP to fetch/ manage/ send my emails.

Sorry... I went out immediately after previous post.

My connection has "always" been stable. (Your records may show my WI-FI problems... but everything connected with the emails bouncing back has been on a laptop connected to my router via a cable. In any case... the bounce back suggests that my message got through to the destination server normally, doesn't it? (The bounce backs are usually nearly instantaneous.)

It is a Windows 10 laptop.

The emails that get bounced are sent by Thunderbird 143.0, using SMTP.

@Sheepdog2020 can you clarify something please?

Wywtk is an acronym for what you wish to know. Are you using this to advise @amahle-TT that this information is now in your private notes field?

If so please post again and confirm the part of your email after the @.

It may be that @amahle-TT did check the private notes field in your profile and found it a non TalkTalk email address, but the wywtk acronym doesn't make this clear and I can't find a provider that uses this as an email address.

Sorry I've been quiet for a few days, folks.

And sorry that I was a bit dim.

In my defense, the mssage from the server that blocked the email I'd sent...

"Please contact your Internet service provider since part of their network is

on our block list.."

... was not accurate. I am now guessing the problem had nothing to do with my ISP (TalkTalk). Is there a way to revise the thread's title? If it takes a sys op, I'd like it to be...

"Emails bounce back- blocked IP address- error message misleading"

Anyway... here's my current guess...

When I send an email, I use my TalkTalk connection to the internet to send the to a SMTP server. The SMTP takes care of sending the email on to the intended recipient. I am presuming that it is THAT server which used a blocked IP address.

I should mention that using SMTP is probably unusual, at least among home users. If you do your email by simply opening a webpage with a browser, you are probably NOT using SMTP. (I.e. the problem I had... not of TalkTalk's making, anyway!.. is not likely to arise for you.)

If the above makes sense, and seems a likely explanation, please accept my apologies for taking this to the wrong forum. Maybe give it a "like" vote? If you think I'm STILL confused, advice would be welcome, of course.

Where did my email address come from? I created it from within the web-hosting contract I pay one of the big hosting firms for. I wanted "@wywtk.com" to go along with with my web-pages at https://wywtk.com

(I'll try to mark the thread "solved" in a few days if no one suggests I'm still confused.)
