Despite having a talk talk broadband and phone contract my email has been blocked unless I subscribe to everymail

Several people have received warnings about losing their email despite being a paying Talktalk broadband customer, unless you subscribe to Everymail.

Whatever you do, don't subscribe to Everymail, as the process cannot be reversed back to Talktalk if you do that.

Longer term, it's better to use free email like Gmail or Hotmail as it's not affected if you change / leave ISP etc.

This has happened to me too. An agent said they were filling a form in to restore my email and it would take 24 to 48 hours to resolve. That was over 72 hours ago and I still can't send emails! I am not instilled with hope. Can only assume they have so many broadband customers whose accounts haven't been linked that it's taking ages. Frankly it's not good. Might have to set up a gmail account and waste hours informing everyone of a change of email address. Modern technology is supposed to make life simpler not stress you out!

I've long since used Hotmail / Yahoo / Gmail because they work reliably in most holiday destinations and are not dependant on the ISP.

ISPs used to promote running an email as a plus to try to lure customers but costs have backfired and they will only maintain them once you leave if you pay for them. It happened long ago with BT.

However, for those customers who are still with them, they are supposed to be maintaining the service. Talktalk appears to have lost track of the association between email address and Talktalk broadband account for customers who left but came back or have legacy addresses that Talktalk took over.

Agents are supposed to be completing a form to ensure this link is correctly recorded.

@byeck, remember that 48 hours will not include the weekend period. And backroom services may not actually work the same hours as the agents, so assume that something reported to them on Wednesday evening won't reach a back office before Thursday morning.

If it's still not sorted by Monday evening, get in touch with them again.

Thanks for the insight. I do have a gmail account but have preferentially used my talktalk email assuming it was safer. In light of what you say about ISPs supporting their email I think I will in future default to gmail. I can foresee further problems up the line with talktalk. I have noticed they are slowly offloading elements of their service (mobile packages being such an example). Shame, I've been with them for years. In the meantime I'll wait until Monday as you suggest and hope I don't have to repeat the arduous process of explaining again to an agent.
