Let's beat the scammers together
Scammers use tactics that involve phone calls that sound genuine and emails that look official, so it's important to familiarise yourself with some of the common types of fraud.
We believe we have a responsibility to help protect our customers and people across the UK from increasingly sophisticated scams.
That’s why we’ve joined forces with Get Safe Online- the UK’s leading source of information on online safety - to provide tools and expert advice on how to beat the scammers.
Take a look at our tips below to see how you can protect yourself from fraud and stay one step ahead of the scammers.
Remember, we will...
NEVER use your TalkTalk account number to prove a call is genuine
NEVER ask for your full password - we'll only ask for 2 digits to protect your security
NEVER ask you to send us money through services like Moneygram or Western Union
NEVER ask for your bank details to process a refund - if you're a customer, we'll already have them
Don't forget, if in doubt...
Hang up
Think calmly about what you're being told, does it make sense? Don't give out any personal details and if it feels wrong, hang up.
Make tea
Making a cup of tea is the perfect opportunity to get away from your phone for a few minutes, pause and reflect on what to do next.
Call back
If the caller claimed to be from a company, call the official number (not the number you were called by) and ask whether they've called you.
