My old housemate who is the account holder at TalkTalk has just called and said that she owes TalkTalk £180 despite the fact the contract was cancelled in January 2021. TalkTalk have no record of this, despite the box being returned. There is a £10 a month cancellation fee as it was contractual but it seems that TalkTalk are asking for the full contract fees + late fees.
What can she do to avoid paying the full whack?

The cancellation fees are around £10.20 per month for each month remaining of the the contract.
How early was the contract terminated ?
Did she get email confirmation that the contract had been cancelled ?
