Boardband not stable - packages lost every a few seconds

Hi,

In the recent few days, I am experiencing this issue.

There are frequent package drop around avg 3 per min when I use ping to the outer world (google or my own server, make no difference.). At the same time, I also ping the router itself to confirm the package drop isn't because bad signal.

I also use another PC and a smartphone to do the same and I can confirm it is the same across all platforms.

Ping to google. 2.2% packages are lost.

At the same time, ping to the router, no package lost.

I did reset the router and did everything I can. But the issue is still there.

The only possible issues come to the router or the line.

I remember a few days ago Talktak announce maintenance of an exchanges centre near Oxford. Cannot remember the name. I live in Southampton. The night we did suffer an internet cutout all night. I am not sure it is related.

According to some online blogs, the link noise margin is quite low. I change wires in my home but it doesn't improve.

Talking to TalkTalk customers service doesn't help, they seem to have zero knowledge besides sending a new router. The one I use is already a new one.

Hi

Line tests are showing an issue and advising that an engineer is required.

I'll drop you a PM to allow this to progress.

Thanks

Karl.

The package loss has dropped to 0.02% when I use VPN connection to my company in the same city. Which is a huge improvement.

This is already quite a stable connection. only one ping missing out of 1500.

This means my data is at least correctly passed within my CITY in Southampton.

The problem must be something wrong with the area or centre exchanger, but not my ADSL lines to the street.

I see there is a large planned service tonight. I will test the connection tomorrow to see if the problem is solved.

But I cannot use VPN all the time, so I do hope Talktalk can fix the problem soon

Hi @Debbie-TalkTalk

Both wire and wireless are suffering the same issues.

I just tested today with a BT hub one V5 running OpenWRT firmware. The issue still persisted.

This ping test is from the BT router. Same story as the TalkTalk router.

Here is the DSL link status from the OpenWRT router.

The package loss rate is way too bad for me to work/gaming.

I am a web developer and I do need a good Internet to do my work at home. I really hope this can be fixed ASAP.

I am happy to help your engineer to dig out the issue.

Let me know what other information is needed.

Thanks

Hi

I'm sorry to hear this.

Can I just check, are your devices connected wired or are you using wireless?

Thanks

Debbie
