I'd like to clarify the cost of an engineer's visit as had some conflicting information from an telephone adviser and a web chat adviser at TalkTalk.
£50 Bright Spark engineer (including VAT)
£65 BT Openreach engineer (including VAT)
Extra cost reflects complexity of issue and level of engineering expertise.
No knowledge of two different options available so therefore reliant on adviser's ability to decide which is more appropriate.
If going for cheaper option, not clear how much extra would be paid if escalated to higher level. £15 on top?
Interested to hear comments.

It is not really a choice you can make, the two different engineers are responsible for different things, so it depends on where the fault is as to which engineer you need. Openreach are responsible for your master phone socket and all phone cabling that goes from that master socket back to the telephone exchange, Openreach are not responsible for any additional phone cabling or sockets in your home, and are not responsible for any of the TalkTalk equipment, so that is where a Bright Sparks engineer could help.
