DG8401W Restarting due to kernel panic

Hi,

I have started getting the kernel panic issue with my DG8401W router that has been mentioned several times in this forum.  Is it possible for an OCE to get the router firmware updated to the unreleased version to stop it rebooting?

Technical support have done tests and not identified an issue with my line and they say they cannot send this firmware, only the OCE’s can.  As this is starting to get very annoying when it does it during a work call, I would like to get it fixed.

Hi @AllyM as always if you have any issues outside of an individual support thread then please start your own topic.

The only change in DG8041W firmware 1.06 is the fix for this Kernel Panic issue, and as the issue only appears to affect a very small number of people I think the decision was made to not roll it out to all routers.

I'm not sure what triggers the issue for just a small number of people, but the Sagemcom hub has the DNS issue that again only affects some customers, and others are running the firmware that is known to have the 'bug' but they don't experience the issue at all.

Maybe some characteristic of the connection / phone line could be a trigger ?, as it does seem to be that some phone lines appear to work better with the Sagemcom compared to the Huawei, and vice versa.

I'm curious as I've read about this issue in a few threads on here. It seems the latest firmware is only being supplied to people who are experiencing this specific issue, but what puzzles me is why does the issue only affect a few people while most with the "old" firmware don't suffer any problems? logic would suggest that all routers of the same model with the same firmware would behave the same way, would it not?

Thanks for sending the fix.  I’ve not had a reboot since it was sent whereas I was having them a couple of times a day.  Hopefully it will stay that way.

Hi @Traxi1,

One of the staff here should be able to pick this up tomorrow, and will be able to push the newest firmware to your router.
