Internet dropping out regularly for short intervals

For a couple of weeks the internet connection drops out for a few minutes. The WiFi signal is OK.

 

I have unplugged and replugged everything including the cable to the phone wall socket. I have rebooted everything including all devices. It affects phones, computers, Amazon fire sticks, security cameras ... everything.

 

It is not a WiFi problem as I can still connect to my WiFi enabled cameras but they will not connect to the remote servers. I have a WiFi monitor app and it shows a WiFi strength of -30db which is normal for my signal.

 

This morning it dropped out partially and a speed test showed 3mb instead of the usual 12mb.

 

It is obviously an intermittent problem with the landline - or the router is going bad. 

 

Any help would be gratefully received. This is the first problem I have had since I joined talktalk nearly three years ago.

 

Guess what! I tried to post this and the internet dropped out again - just as I clicked the "post" button .... It's getting worse!!

Good morning Michelle / Debbie,

 

No drop outs all weekend- so it's fixed ( I hope!).

 

Thank you for all your help and time.

 

I posted the old router on Saturday morning and the tracking says it arrived yesterday.

 

Once again, thanks. Your help is much appreciated.

I will - It hasn't dropped out while I have been using it, so maybe the monitoring app is a bit unreliable ..... Who knows??

 

As long as it doesn't cut out while I'm using it then it's not a problem. 

 

I'll let you know when I have left it running for a while.

Hi Michelle - just a couple of 1 minute drop-outs at about 1 am according to the app I am using. It's not a problem if it is at that time in the morning.

 

I'll keep monitoring it and let you know.

Just an update for today -

no drop-outs!

 

I'll monitor it for a while longer but it does seem fixed now.

Good morning Debbie / Michelle / Karl.

 

Just a quick update as requested by Debbie.

After the one drop-out yesterday afternoon, the connection has behaved itself overnight with no more drop-outs since then.

 

I think it is more or less mended but I'll let you know later if it misbehaves.

Yep - no problem.

I'll keep the app monitoring it overnight and let you know how it has gone tomorrow.

 

One thought - it has rarely dropped out overnight according to the app, unless there is something on my phone that puts the app to sleep.

 

One drop-out a day would be impossible to find I would have thought. The new router has made it much, much better though.

 

I'll get in touch tomorrow.

Hi Peter

 

Intermittent faults can be more difficult to investigate especially if the fault is not present when the engineer is investigating and if the line test is not detecting any obvious line faults.

 

Please can you post back on this thread tomorrow and we can check the connection stats again.

Hi Debbie, it is the only one today so I'm hoping it was just a little glitch. 

 

The app I am using only samples once per minute so there could be others. At least it hasn't dropped out while I was on my phone doing anything important

 

I'll just monitor it for a couple of days - if it only happens once every so often then it will be difficult to find I assume.

 

I'll see how it goes overnight.
