For the past 2 months I have had 'Waiting for <website>' until timeout. This is on a random basis and sites giving trouble today will be ok tomorrow. Sometimes it is Waiting for Handshake (any HTPPs site).  It has timed out for Google, talktalk and just a monet ago for CNJS.Clodflare.com while trying to read one of the forum answers.  If you pay for something I am never certain the payment has got through.  Tried 4 different browsers, 3 different computers (2 wireless 1 ethernet, windows 10 and windows 7.)  Have had 2 new routers due to problems with my line speed constantly dropping but this may(?) have been sorted.  Outreach has checked the line twice.  Ping is rated as anything between 31 and 35ms.  When I try Tracert www.google.com I get this

No idea if this is a help.  My MDU is set to 1500 and the optimum is apparently 1498  -again, no idea if that is a problem.  I shall now try to post this and it will probably hang.  Pressing F5 will restore the page but not this message so I will have to re-type it.  It makes the internet almost unusable.  Any suggestions?

Hi whitehairedgeezer,

I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing problems with your service. This appears to have now been raised to BT Openreach for investigation, has anyone been in contact since your post?

Got a Text message on the day of the Openreach visit (no one actually visited the property) saying that the engineer could not fix the fault and that TT would be in touch to discuss the next step.  That was Thursday.  Since I had heard nothing, I rang TT today (Monday pm) and spent an hour with the front line guy who would not passs me to a manager until he had conducted all the tests (no fault found!)  Eventually after just over an hour and after I kept insisting, I was put through to a manager (Alex) who has organised a 'higher level' Openreach engineer to visit the property this coming Thursday (1st time I was available to be in for the visit).  So... watch this space....

So far have had 4 visits from Openreach - after each visit the line stabvalised for about a week then decreased daily.  The last one replaced my no. 1 phone socket.  This may have solved the speed though it does appear to be rather variable (up and down but so far not less thatn 29 wired / wireless 14).  No change on the handshaking.  Last week I paid for somethiong twice because the submit page hung.  It is not site specific.  Despite informing the latest manager that when accessing the Talk Talk speed site from a bookmark on any browser I get a long pause while  'Waiting for myaccount.talktalk.co.uk' and 'establishing a secure connection' and waiting for somewhere else at talktalk, the lady manager tells me that it is my computer which is to blame.  This despite the fact that all my laptops which connect wirelessly and my desktop computer connecting by wire all experience the same problem as do all my browsers.  She tells me I must have something running in the background which is causing this ( all comps are antivirused scanned regularly, malwarebytes antispyware and spybot and I am on my 3rd Router).  Anyone got any ideas?

Hi whitehairedgeezer, could you run some traceroutes for me to several pages that cause you problems? What DNS do you use?

It couldnt find the host for myaccount.talktalk.co.uk\speed-checker which is where I go for speed checking so this is to  talktalk
The speed check page often takes 40+secs to load - its all intermittent

Saoory missed the DNS bit - I used the Talktalk automatic DNS then changed it to Googles 8.8.8.8  and 8.8.4.4

Hi,

Thanks for the additional information. Just to confirm, in your first post you mention that you've tested with 2 different routers. Have you tested with both a HG633 and a 3782 router? Was the engineer also able to replicate this?

Once we've confirmed the above then we can ask our Network Engineers to take another look for you.

Thanks

I had quite an old TalkTalk router which was replaced with a 3782 and then that was replaced with another 3782.  The engineers were more interested with the dropping speed issue whioch seems currently to have been resolved.

Hi,

Ok thanks for letting me know. As the line tests are clear and the connection stats also look ok, would you like to try a HG633 router before we pass this over to our Network Team?

Thanks

Yes please - I'll try anything to resolve this since its driving me nuts.  Speeds are still settled on both wired and wireless connections. (Wireless near router is 26).  Just a note which I cant remember if I have commented before.  From 2013 when I started on fast BB the upload speed was averaging 6.7.  Suddenly when all this handshaking and speed dropping business started my upload speed shot up to 9.13.  No one seems to know why.

Hi

A new HG633 router is on the way for testing.

This should arrive in the next 24-48 working hours.

Thanks

Karl.

Did this get resolved?

Really interesting as it is exactly the same as I gave experienced over the last 2-3months.

Done many of the same steps. New routers, different socket.

My speed is fine, just does not load I'd say 10% of Web pages, mostly random  ookla often, but I use that often so law of probability there... What was your fix??

Hi Jwm1967,

I'm sorry to hear this. Please can you create your own thread and we can look into this further for you.

Thanks

I'm having the exact same issues, I tried contacting TalkTalk tech support. They kept telling me it was a speed issue and I had to eventually say "Please stop saying it's a speed issue, I've told you repeatedly it's not the speed". I work from home and this is becoming a real problem for me. There were no issues like this in over 4 years of having a fibre connection, it literally started when TalkTalk took over. I lost my connection for a day, when it came back online it was like it is now, 10% or so of all network connections time out or never complete.

I have now created a thread. Funnily enough I got a call yesterday about this issue so it's now being dealt with and passed to the network team. Hopefully they'll be able to find out what's wrong.

Thanks
