When I send emails from my talktalk email address the recipient doesn’t see my address/name - I just come up as “talktalk”. As a result some of my emails are just going into people’s trash as they don’t realise they are from me!  Any idea how I can fix this please?

'Friendly names' are the usual term for what recipients of emails see in the From: entry. My email for example, From: Gondola <username@talktalk.net>

 

Gondola is my 'Friendly name' but TalkTalk use the term 'Real Names' because it's your real name they initially ask you to enter.  When first setting up the Email account on the new TalkTalk Mail platform you're asked to enter First name and Last name. This goes into your 'My contact data' and is normally seen by recipients as the 'Friendly name' or 'Real Names' associated with the email address.

 

New TalkTalk Upgrade Edit Information - Name

 

To review My contact data:

  • Login to the new TalkTalk Mail
  • Select the Menu option      top right
    (triple line hamburger icon or cog icon for mobile)
  • Then My contact data in the drop down menu
  • Your First name / Last name will be shown in the pop-up 'contact data'
  • You can edit there at any time and Save the changes

Now, let's change the 'Friendly name' / 'Real name' that normally appears to recipients in the From: entry

  • Select Email from the blue header bar
  • Select Compose from the sub-header
  • Select the blue down arrow to the right of the From: <email address>  
  • You'll see a drop-down box with options Hide names or Edit names
  • Select Edit names
  • In the pop-up, Select the tick box
  • Enter the name or names you wish your recipients to see
  • Select Save

Compose - Edit Real Names

 

 

The Hide names option will send your email From: <email address>.

The Edit names / Custom name option will send your email From: Custom name <email address>.

Amazing!  Thanks so much for your help. My problem was that recipients didn’t even see my user name/email address  - just the words “talktalk” and nothing more. But this seems to have solved the problem. Thanks for taking the time!
