Mail cant verify the identity of the server "mail.talktalk.net"

Hi all,

I've started getting the Cannot verify server identity for of the server "mail.talktalk.net".

This has only started today and I have checked settings as per the pinned post by the OCE's.

 

Any ideas?

 

Phone 8 on the lastest IOS and im using the standard Apple mail app.

Just to add insult to injury. On the TALKTALK Status Page, email is showing as fine with no problem. However on the Website Icon it says starting yesterday TT we’re updating their websites,  ummmmmm coincidence?

I have multiple email accounts, there’s a part of me thinking. “ That’s Ok I’ll just fix that then, shall I”

 

Next time the electric goes off I’ll just shimmy  up the pole and fix that as well. 

 

It just irritates me. I pay for a service.  The clues in the word service.

Hi @dakotadevil (and any followers)

 

Accepting the certificate, reconfirming the mail user password, or deleting the mail account, powering off the device, repowering and reinstating the mail account (or sometimes re-setting the device and reinstating) are all good tips to fix these issues.

 

I noted that TalkTalk Social media team were advising iPhone users to follow the delete the mail account and reinstate tip.

 

Others have found that accepting the certificate and reconfirming the mail user password works.

 

As for the root cause of why this is happening, that's being investigated.

I also have the same issue "mail.talktalk.net cannot be verified", apple website recommends not using SSL and different port number to 993 when you give them your emailaddress to check but unsure about this? was working fine until last couple of days

If you're presented with a certificate verification issue and you're confident you're connected to the TalkTalk server with the recommended settings then have you tried tapping continue and then tapping trust to add the certificate to the trusted list?

Hi Mark

 

There are some unexplained issues at the moment with email performance.

 

Webmail is working ok and smtp sending is ok so far as I'm aware.

 

The certificate issue has cropped up before. You could try tapping continue and then trust and if all other settings are ok and the app itself is ok it should work.

 

If not then Apple support advice in the past has been to save emails and delete the account from apple mail and reinstate using the talktalk recommended imap settings. Set SSL on and authentication to password.


Just in case, I've escalated to the TalkTalk Help & Support Team so they're aware. Just add the email address to your Community profile, Personal Information, Private Notes box.
