New Pipex password but I still received Bitcoin extortion email

A few months ago, my Pipex account was hacked. Therefore I went through the lengthy process of getting a new secure password. Now today, to one of the three email addresses covered by the new password, I have received a Bitcoin extortion letter. Is it safe to assume that some idiot has simply got hold of this email address and is simply trying it on? In other words, it is spam. I see no way that he could have got hold of the new secure password.

Hi @Pal353

Your thoughts are spot on.

Most of the bitcoin extortion scam emails made fake claims including a fake claim of hacking an email account and supposedly proving that by sending you the email direct from the same account (which is just email address spoofing sent from the scammer's email address) Compromised or spoofed accounts

Don't respond to the scam but do forward to TalkTalk Report a phishing or spam email and or to ActionFraud.
