For a while I could not receive incoming mail into Outlook though outgoing mail still worked, I gather this was as a result of upgrade to TalkTalk. However, after a time this facility came back and I was until about a week ago able to use Outlook as normal. However now, I am being asked for password for the pop.talktalk server and don't know where to find or how to reset the password - none of the ones I thought were correct seem to work.

Best to check your mailbox is working as expected via webmail using the expected password.
Select here: Sign in to TalkTalk Mail
Enter your full TalkTalk Mail email address and password, select Sign in.
If you get a password incorrect error then the Reset your password now button in the help article Changing your email password will take you to password reset and recovery.
If the email address is still active on the TalkTalk Mail platform and you have set up password recovery options, in advance, that you recognise from the *****hints, then you can send your alternate email address a link or your mobile a 6-digit code to authorise a password reset.
If there's only the one hint for the mailbox you need the password for then that means you haven't set up password recovery so let us know if that's the case and we can start you off on the Update your reset details journey which involves TalkTalk Support setting up new password recovery reset details.
