Recent email loss - I don't understand parts of Ady's message

My error messages say:

failed to connect to server imap.dsl.pipex.com - on opening/reciving

and

Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.dsl.pipex.com is unknown. The server may be incorrectly configured. Please verify that your Outgoing server (SMTP) settings are correct and try again.

On trying to send

OK

 

Ady says

RESET COMPETELY

so that I retype in my ($Address-hidden)@dsl.pipex.com - yes/no?

& then completely reset the IN/OUT from ..

imap.dsl.pipex.com >>> imap. - WHAT?  ( imap.talktalk,net? or what?

smtp.dsl.pipex.com >>> smtp.talktalk.net ???

Yes/No?

What else needs altering?

What have I missed or misunderstood?
