Hi I wonder if someone can assist a non technical talktalk user. I have outlook on my laptop with talktalk emails, I have purchased outlook 365 and as such I want to have talktalk on outlook on my iphone to keep things synced ok I tried in vain today I got as far as inputting the IMAP settings the script is asking for the IMAP incoming email server, which I assume is mail.talktalk.net, then IMAP port I used 993, it then asks for port security options are SSL/STARTTLS / NONE I tried STARTTLS it then wants IMAP username & password is that my email address and corresponding password? the same is repeated for outgoing server I used smtp.talktalk.net the same quivery over port security as above  I input 587, then the same question SMTP username & password is this again my email & password when I click OK I get an error saying SMTP invalid server info

Can anyone help?

Hi baniskher

Whilst Outlook for desktop is a classic email client and sets up fairly easily as an IMAP account for TalkTalk Mail the Outlook for mobile app is not easy to set up because it does not communicate directly with the TalkTalk servers to establish a verified setup.

My advice is to forget Outlook for mobile and use the default mail app on the iPhone or any other email app of your choice. Setting it up as an IMAP account and it'll sync to your mailbox just as easily as an Internet browser for webmail acting as an IMAP client or indeed Outlook for desktop.

Here's an example of setting up the iPhone:

From the home screen

  • Tap Settings (cog icon)
  • Tap Mail
  • Tap Accounts (iOS 15 or 14) or

Passwords & Accounts (iOS 13 or 12), Accounts & Passwords (iOS 11), Mail (iOS 10) or Mail, Contacts, Calendars (iOS 9)

  • Tap Add Account
  • Tap Other (bottom of the list)
  • Tap Add Mail Account
and enter your email account information
  • Name: Your name, as you want recipients to see it
  • Email: Your full TalkTalk Mail email address
  • Password: Email password
Description: Your choice of Mail account name
    Tap Next (top right)

iPhone13 Select Account Type

  • Select Account type: IMAP
    INCOMING MAIL SERVER
  • Host name: mail.talktalk.net
  • Username: Full TalkTalk Mail email address
  • Password: Email password
  • Incoming server port: 993
  • OUTGOING MAIL SERVER (SMTP)
  • Host Name: smtp.talktalk.net
  • Username: Your full TalkTalk Mail email address (It's NOT optional)
  • Password: Email password (It's NOT optional)
  • Select Next and Save to create the Mail account

Now we need to set up the OUTGOING MAIL SERVER SMTP settings
And then return to the Account and tap Advanced to set up the INCOMING SETTINGS

Select the Mail account name Description you've just set up
OUTGOING MAIL SERVER

  • Tap SMTP
Make sure it is set as the primary server
  • Server must be ON (green)

iPhone13 Outgoing Mail Server

  • Use SSL must be ON (green)
  • Authentication: Password
  • Server Port: 587
  • Tap Done (top right)

Select top left arrow < Account (to return to the Account)

  • Tap Advanced
    INCOMING SETTINGS

iPhone13 Incoming Settings

  • Use SSL must be ON (green)
  • Authentication: Password
  • Server Port: 993

Select top left arrow < Account (to return to the account setup)

  • Tap Done (top right)

For Fetch new data you switch off Push and synchronise iPhone Email to the TalkTalk Mail server to fetch messages on your chosen schedule.
