Ethernet problems

Team Player

When I changed over from Virginmedia to Talktalk I did not realise that I was going to have so many problems.

My service with Virginmedia has been disconnected and when I went on my PC, I had no connection to the internet. I discovered that I need to connect via an ethernet cable. Unfortunately the modem is next to my landline downstairs and connected to the phone line.

How can I get my PC connected to the modem without moving my computer. I had no problems with Virginmedia apart that they are too expensive so that is why I moved and now wish I had not.

I need to get this big problem resolved soon before I throw the modem out the door

you have a few options

you can connect you pc to the router by a long ethernet cable

you can use powerline plugs which use your house wiring to get the connection

you can move your router to the same location as the pc and use a long cable from the phone socket to the router

you can connect to the pc by wifi

An engineer came last Saturday and discovered that my PC was not Wifi enabled so he suggested I buy a Wifi dongle. I have now fitted the dongle and I can get internet now. It is a lot better than having to feed a long cable through the house.
