Faster Fibre Boost - Latency

My Faster Fibre Speed Boost activated today with download speeds increasing from 39 to 70 Mbps and Upload from 9.5 to 18 Mbps.

Subsequent speed tests show Latency has increased from 9 to 16 ms.    Is this increase to be expected and is Latency likely to reduce to its original level over a 10 day period while things settle?  Thanks.

Hi aa2000

Its best to allow the 10 day settling in period to elapse.

Continue to monitor.

Am pleased to report that as of this morning, speeds have further improved (Download:  73.7 Mbps  Upload: 18.6 Mbps) and since a few days ago, Latency has reduced to 8 ms.

Measured with Google Search Internet Speed Test.

There seems to be a fault with your 'Service Status' facility in My Account.  Estimated Speeds have not taken the Fibre Speed Boost into account and this morning it is returning the following status:

Your broadband connection could be improved

Our health check on your service shows that your speed to your router could be improved.

Your Line Speed

Your Estimated Speeds: 39 Mb - 40 Mb. Your Actual Speed: 76 Mb.

Hi aa2000

Are you running this test when connected wired?

Thanks

Hi aa2000

Please can you power down your router for a full 30 minutes and then run the test again?

Thanks

I powered down for minimum 30 minutes, tested again and the result hasn't changed:

The health check we carried out on your broadband line shows that recently you have not been receiving the estimated download speed we guaranteed when you signed up to TalkTalk.

Estimated speed: 39 Mb - 40 Mb

Recent speed: 76 Mb

I notice that community member @Col_J appears to have a similar issue in his post can a Oce_ check if DLM is active after speed boost was added please

Hi aa2000

The sync speed looks good, line is in sync at 76.6mb

Can you run the speed test on a different device?

Thanks

Hi Debbie

I only have the one device (a laptop) available to me at the moment so am unable to test on another device.

I'm happy that my speeds are ok, so am not unduly concerned, other than it would appear (see my previous post) that your 'Service Status' may return erroneous results for some (all?) Fibre Speed Boost customers.

Thanks

Hi aa2000

Thanks for your reply.

If the throughput speeds are low (speed tests) based upon the sync speed then this is why you are receiving this message.

It would also be worth trying the test again in a different browser.

Thanks

Hi Debbie

I just completed the test using the Microsoft Edge browser and the result is exactly the same.

Thanks

Hi aa2000

Thanks for testing this.

It would also be worth testing with a different device.

Hi Debbie

Good news, Service Status now seems to be working correctly. 🙂

See below for latest Speed Test results from 'My Account'.  Do those test results seem ok, or lower than you would expect?   Laptop is hard-wired to Router and is the only device running.

Thanks

Hi aa2000

That's great, thanks for keeping us updated 🙂

The speed test results look good based upon the sync speed.

Thanks
