High latency Wifi and Ethernet

Hi,

I recently joined TalkTalk transfered from a previous ISP in the same home.

I'm experimenting unusual high latency while playing games online.

Via Wifi 5ghz my average ms is between 35-60ms.

Via Ethernet my average ms is 19ms fixed.

With my previous ISP I could reach 10ms via Wifi, didn't even need an ethernet connection because the ms was good enough.

Any clue how could I solve this issue?

Thanks

Hi alexauron

Thanks for updating your Community Profile.

The connection stats look good and no issues have been detected on the line test.

@KeithFrench provides really good advice on improving wireless performance. Could you help please Keith?

Thanks

Hi @OCE_Debbie  @alexauron

Is the problem just on the wireless connections now, as the thread title says it affects Ethernet as well?

Keith
I am not employed by TalkTalk, I'm just a customer. If my post has fixed the issue, please mark it as the Best Answer.

Hi,

I tried WiFi and couldn't manage to play anything. So I tried via ethernet and still no luck.

Just want to highlight that my previous ISP had better latency via WiFi than TalkTalk via ethernet...

Hi @OCE_Debbie

Back to you then as the OP says it does affect wireless & Ethernet connections.

Hi alexauron,

Thanks @KeithFrench 🙂

Could you run a wired ping and trace route and post the results into the thread.

Run a Ping or Traceroute

Thanks

Hi alexauron,

Thanks for running the tests

Could you explain what you mean when you said "I tried WiFi and couldn't manage to play anything. So I tried via ethernet and still no luck." - What exactly happens when you try to play your games?

Sure,

Eventually, I have lag. I cannot even use discord for chat with my mates, which is breaking up my voice even when not playing. I cannot play because the experience is unsatisfactory.

Lan cable helped a bit, but still not as good as I had with my previous ISP over WiFi.

Thanks for the information. Can you switch your router off and leave it off for at least 30 minutes, then switch back on and retest, please let us know how you get on
